Sponsor's Guide
Getting Started Strategy Session
You Sponsored Someone! Now What?
Congratulations on starting a new business partner! Please take a moment to celebrate YOUR efforts and honor the opportunity to help someone move closer to their dreams. Come alongside your business partner on their journey to launch their business successfully. What you do duplicates. What you do with them is what they will do with the people they sponsor. You're not their boss; you are their partner for support, accountability and growth.
Connect with your upline Area Manager or Vice President. It's recommended that you help people "get started" as a trio: the new IC, the sponsor and an AM/VP until the sponsor is a District with a promoted out District.
Schedule a Getting Started Strategy session within the first 48 hours of an IC enrolling. Pass along the Getting Started 1-4 Checklist to your new IC. Use the 1-4 Checklist and the "clickable" links to help you navigate the strategy session.
"Simplicity SCALES, complexity DOESN'T. If your onboarding system is too complicated, you're giving too much information and not focused enough on quick wins." Bob Heilig
As you coach through this guide, please keep in mind that this was created in order to SIMPLIFY what we share with new people in order to break down "all things Arbonne" into bite-sized pieces that don't create overwhelm. Our goals when getting someone started using this series of strategy sessions are as follows:
1. Keep it simple.
- A new person should have 80% given to them step by step and 20% choices. The choices should be simple and centered around their passions and current skills.
- A confused mind says "no." We know there are MANY things a person starting an Arbonne business needs to know, and all of it will be shared in multiple next steps. We intentionally and with much discussion chose to not include things such as - how does PurePay work, set up your website, post on Social, add to all our communication groups, show the website and the Source, set up Recommended carts, LEGO, how to make other kinds of asks, etc. in this first Getting Started Guide.
- Duplication builds more quickly than expertise or perfection.
2. Build confidence.
- Become a product of the product to create authentic testimonials. The more you experience, the more you'll have confidence sharing
- Start practicing
- telling their story
- sharing about Arbonne, its products and programs and the opportunity
- booking and holding an income producing activity
- Connecting their head with their heart - their WHY
- Knowing what they personally have that will be of value to others
3. Generate quick wins.
- First paycheck within 10 days
- Booking and holding an income producing activity (remember the feeling of your first? WIN!)
- Signing up a new Preferred Client
- Serving someone through their business
- Checking off items on their Getting Started Checklist
1. Set Up Your Business
🔲 Sign up as an Independent Consultant
🔲 Purchase your Products (Nutrition Set, Skin Care Set or Both)
Coaches Guide
1. When a prospect is ready to become a consultant, tell them we have a proven system for success to help them along their journey.
2. Walk them through the steps, either in person or send a recommended cart. (Helping them personally with their sign up will ensure that you are assigned as the sponsor for the new IC.) Make sure they include their IC registration and their first product order. Many leaders recommend a starter order consisting of skin care and nutrition so the new IC can start developing their testimonials. Be sure to check with current month promotions for new consultants.
"Sam, I am so excited for you and your new business. I know you will be amazing at this/reach so many lives/etc. because ______. You are in business for yourself, but not by yourself! We have a proven system for success that I'm going to send you a checklist. The first step is to officially have you enroll as an Independent Consultant and grab some products for yourself and anything you'd like to demo! Once you place your order, you will be up and running, complete with your own website!
(if not in person) I'm going to send you a link so all you have to do is click and go."
3. Check to make sure your new IC is listed with you as their sponsor in your back office RIGHT AWAY. This cannot be changed after 72 hours.
4. Immediately send them a CONGRATULATIONS! "They have just transitioned from 'skeptical' to 'excited.' They are filled with hope and possibility. It's important to join them in celebrating this milestone." ~Never Lose a Customer Again by Joey Coleman.
5. Add and welcome them to your team communication groups.
2. Create Goals, Vision, and Pace
- List 8-10 things you desire/need/want. Who or what would be impacted when you have it?
- Walk (1-3 hours/week)
- Jog (4-9 hours/week)
- Run (10+ hours/week)
Coaches Guide
The amount of coaching people need in this section will vary greatly.
1. Start with asking them these 2 questions: "What's your why?" and "When do you need it?"
2. Click on the link for a printable version your new business partner can use if he/she would like.
3. Listen, be interested, validate their thoughts - you are building a relationship and building trust as they will be sharing their innermost hopes and dreams. Oftentimes, our tendency is to jump in and share our story as well. Be aware of this and ask more questions rather than sharing your own experiences.
- If they are quick to respond and are detailed in their answers, no need to coach further. Simply listen and take notes.
- If you find they have difficulty answering these, that's okay. Some of us haven't dusted off our dreams for quite some time. Consider asking some more detailed questions, give them time to think and then listen.
Example of more detailed questions for what is their why:
If time and money were not limited, describe a day in your perfect life?
Is there anyone you wish you could spend more time with or help more?
Is there any organization/charity to which you would like to contribute more?
Are there any hobbies or passions you have that you don't get to participate in as much as you'd like?
Dream Big: If you had $2,000 extra today, how would that change your life? What would you do with that money What if it's $5,000?
Example of detailed questions for personalizing the pace:
When you think of your weekly schedule, do you have any time where you are...
waiting for someone/something?
scrolling on your phone?
watching TV?
in your car or home listening to music or a podcast?
could wake up earlier or go to bed later?
3. Brainstorm WHO you can help and HOW
🔲 What excites you most about being a part of Arbonne?
🔲 List the people you're excited to share with from your Contacts. Start with 10 people and move to inviting. Continue to add names and keep inviting.
Coaches Guide
What excites your new business partner most is very important because it will be what he/she will be able to talk about with the most passion (and, therefore, influence). It can also contribute to his/her motivation to start reaching out.
Let him/her know that "What you’re excited about is what you’ll be sharing at your launch and on calls/at coffee appointments. It's how you will serve people, at least at first, through your business because it's your top passion at this time."
Identifying your Sphere of Influence: You will want them to reach out to as many people as possible and invite them to their launch. For this initial getting started sesion, the goal is to start inviting immediately TODAY. Help them identify 10 contacts. Then move to inviting (#4 below). (It's better to identify 5 people in 2 spheres and get started with inviting than to complete the wheel and run out of time to do what is more important to build confidence and their paycheck. It also shows them that they will be coming back to this consistently.)
This is a list they'll always be adding to. If you have more time, help them identify an additional 10 people, and move to inviting. Continue. Then, the new IC can continue doing this independently in the time leading up to their launch.
4. Personalize Your Initial Activity
🔲 Set your launch dates and methods (in person, on Zoom, on social, etc.)
🔲 Begin reaching out to those in your contacts (sphere of influence)
- Invite them to your launch
- If they can’t attend, ask them on a 3-way call so you can practice with them
Coaches Guide
Set launch dates: Watch the video from ENVP Donna Johnson together and set two launch dates (in person or virtual - that can mean on social for anyone already influencing there).
Invite: Click on the sample invitation wording. It can be personalized to make it authentic and "sound like them." Help them use their Sphere of Influence sheet to make their first 10 asks.
(A tendency with an "ask" is to overshare and overthink. In a future strategy session, your new consultant will learn how to create effective asks. We have used that structure for this initial ask so they can get right into activity. For now, we highly recommend using this sample invite as is.)
As the new consultants receive responses from those they invite to their launch, help them keep the conversation going. Below you will find sample replies to keep continue to the conversation. Once you have helped them with 10-15, they will have an idea of how to proceed.
- They say "yes" - be excited and tell them how much you appreciate them and are looking forward to seeing them.
- They say "no" - follow the 3-way call link and ask them on a Zoom or coffee.
- No response - wait 2-3 days and circle back. "I know it's a busy time of year, but I wanted to touch base again make sure you saw my message. Hope all is well! I'm looking forward to hearing back from you."
- Still no response - Recommendation: call and leave a message or do a voice message with this vs text or type it. "Hi, Sam! I’ve left you several messages and I haven’t heard back, so I’m assuming it’s one of three things. (1) you’re super busy and you haven’t had a chance to respond. I get it I’m super busy too. I’ll keep reaching out. Hopefully we’ll connect soon. Or (2) you’re no longer interested in hearing about my product (or my income option) that’s the case, and that’s fine, just please let me know otherwise, I’m gonna keep reaching out because that’s what I do (say that with a smile in your voice) or (3) I hope I didn’t say or do anything to offend you. If so, I’m so sorry." (by, Michael Durkin.
TIP FOR HESITATIONS: Inviting can be a "great divide" in our business. Those who start inviting, progress toward the next level of success. Those who don't, get "stuck" where they are and often walk away because of their fear. When you get to this point in coaching, the new business partner might hit his/her first doubts or discomfort. The excitement is still there, but at some point some hesitations will creep in. That is 100% normal and simply means we need to have a conversation about his/her thinking around the topic to see from where the hesitation stems. We don't want to ASSUME this is the case here, but if you sense it, it's time for an intentional conversation (ask your upline to support you in this, if they aren't in the conversation already at this point).
Example Convo: Sam, I'm sensing a little hesitation around this. Believe me, you're not alone. Would it be okay for us to chat about it? (IF YES, Can you share with me a little about how you're feeling?)
Listen and discuss.
All of the most successful leaders in Arbonne have experienced some hesitations and doubts. They have been successful despite these hesitations, and sometimes fears, by putting time into personal development, learning and practicing in order to get more comfortable with the areas that seemed challenging. They kept their why in the forefront of their minds to remind them of their purpose and passions! "If it's important, you'll find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse." ~Ryan Blair
Mind Your Mind
The #1 reason people fail (quit) in this business is because of mismanaged expectations.
Here are a few "expectation inoculations":
- You will hear "no" or "no thank you" often, but it usually just means "not right now" or “I don’t know enough”
- Like any business, you will have ups and downs.
- Your success or failure is up to you; Compare yourself only to the person you were yesterday.
- Any business that grows and lasts, takes time. Your choices in that time define your success.
- Develop rock-solid belief: the more people you share Arbonne with, the more you will "sharpen your saw."
- This business works when you do. Treat it like a business, not like a hobby. Stay consistent with your conversations with people.
- Be coachable, hungry to learn, and connected to your mentors and team.
- Reach out to your upline often. They will know you are in activity when you are in regular contact, and need their assistance. This is a great thing!
- Read personal growth & practice affirmations daily.
- Remember why you started this…you CAN achieve it!
