Each season Annelies provides inspiring nuggets of wisdom through her newsletter and invitations to upcoming events. Seasonal teachings help people see their world in a new way and come through both her personal and professional experiences and various indigenous practices. One of which is the Chinese Five Elements philosophy of Wu Xing (wŭ ching) which highlights unique nature-based ways to understand and process change, and problem-solve. Find this newsletter useful? According to Eastern traditions there are 5 seasons, each represented by an element, color and emotional characteristics. Here's a simplified explanation.

• Winter : Water : Blue : Stillness : Fear
• Spring : Wood : Green : Creativity : Anger
• Summer : Fire : Red : Connectivity : Joy
• Late Summer : Earth : Yellow : Integrity : Sympathy
• Autumn : Metal : White : Acknowledgement : Grief

Late summer is related to the EARTH element which represents transformation and informs a sense of gratitude, balance, abundance, harvest, nurturing, sweetness and integrity. Through the season of late summer, we are reminded to reflect upon the aspects of life which are deeply fulfilling.

Late summer starts, here in Raleigh NC, about the second week of July, around summer solstice. The sunlight is different, it's lower in the sky, the shadows are a bit longer. The trees hold a dusty 'tired' green, some leaves already changing. My cherry tree is dropping yellow leaves and the 'back-to-school-bugs' are chirping 'till early in the morning. We're now in a new season. Note the small shifts in you and changes around your neighborhood. What do you see? Take the gifts of late summer into practice.

• What aspects of your life are deeply fulfilling?
• Where are you in or out of alignment with your integrity?
• In what ways do you self-care or disregard caring for your needs or needs of others?

Humans function like seasons of the natural world. We often easily respond to the expressions and changes of the natural world. Nowadays, many of us are inside, working year-round, maybe isolated with no windows to tell our bodies where we are in our natural cycles. So, if this describes you- I encourage you to give extra attention to exploring your inner nature this season by exploring in nature. Go outside, get off your devices, sign up for a class or retreat, (schedule this now!) go camping or take an exotic vacation that will tempt, tease and release your genius. Engage in exploration for the sake of savoring what's good.
