Internationally Speaking, with Principal Bryant

Dear Silver Spring International Families,

It's been a whirlwind of a week! I want to thank our Spanish Immersion Exchange Parents for their support in hosting our Colombian students and for organizing an enjoyable welcome breakfast. Our visitors return home on Monday; it has been a superb exchange experience and has created even more excitement for our upcoming travel to The Victoria School in the spring!

In other news .....while a blown transformer foiled our plans this week, we can't be held back forever! We are rescheduling the SSIMS Community meeting to take place at our November PTSA meeting on WEDNESDAY, November 9th. Tuesday the 8th is the Election Day holiday, so we shifted our meeting to the following night. Please mark your calendars and cross your fingers that the adage "third time's a charm" holds true!

We will hold the business portion of the October PTSA meeting in a VIRTUAL format on Monday, October 17th at 7 pm. Please log into Zoom to get the latest information from our PTSA and hear a short presentation from one of our business partners whose support has richly impacted our students.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week at SSIMS. There will be important lessons implemented during Jag classes, and on Wednesday, we are having a Mental Health Awareness Fair for staff and students during lunch.

Community Engagement Survey

Research shows that collaboration between school and home leads to student success in the classroom. We at SSIMS are looking to enhance our collaborative efforts in order to build our community and engage all of our families. We would love to hear from you regarding this and how we as a school can best meet your needs. We appreciate your feedback with this!

Community Project Information

Attention 8th grade families! Silver Spring International is a Middle Years Program school, which means our 8th graders demonstrate a commitment to service by completing the Community Project. The Community Project is a project in which students make a positive change or impact in their community and warm SSL hours. On Wednesday, October 12th we hosted a Community Project informational meeting for parents and guardians.

Northwood High School DCC Open House

Outdoor Classroom Committee

You are invited to join the Outdoor Classroom Committee in our Fall Workday of the Outdoor Classroom, shared between the SSIMS and SCES communities. We will be preparing the space for winter to include weeding and replanting. All levels of experience are welcome! All tools will be provided, we recommend to wear long sleeves and pants and bring a water bottle. SSL hours will be given.

When: Sunday October 23 from 1 - 4 PM

Where: Outdoor Classroom, most direct entrance is from SCES side near the cafeteria.

RSVPs are welcomed but not required to the Outdoor Classroom Committee Co-Chairs, Ilisa Tawney (SSIMS parent) or Shoshanna Sumka (SCES parent), at outdoorclassroom20910@gmail.com.
