PARKING for Winter Faire
As always, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be a fabulous neighbor and park legally and kindly! Of all the aspects of Winter Faire, THIS is the one that matters the most to our future as a school here on Clay Street. Walk, bike, carpool, park several blocks away--do anything to ease the congestion around the school and be a parking hero! And, if you see an illegal or inappropriate parking job, take a picture of the license plate and problem and text it to Cynthia (541-622-5565).
The season of Advent is here! At our first advent assembly of the year, the 7th grade led the school with a verse about the mineral kingdom as we lit the first advent candle and celebrated the coming of the holidays. We hope to see you all at WINTER FAIRE this Saturday!
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
I hope all families had a wonderful break last week.
It was so good to see the children back at school yesterday. We started the day with our first advent assembly:
The first light of advent is the light of stones,
The light that shines in sea shells, crystals and in bones.
Classes have started to prepare their presentation pieces for the Winter Assembly, our big event at SOU on Wednesday, December 13th, 6:30-8:00pm. Please see more details about this event in the office section.
Campus is starting to buzz in preparations for Winter Faire. Sarah Collins has done a fabulous job getting us this far with all the organizations for this big community event. A big thank you to Sarah!!! If you have not yet, please consider signing up to help us all run this magical event together. The link is below.
See you all on Friday for the Shopping Evening and on Saturday for Winter Faire!

Global Day of Generosity: Giving Tuesday - November 28th
The Siskiyou School is participating in "Giving Tuesday" on November 28th. Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving and unity. Now in its fourteenth year, Giving Tuesday is recognized as an opportunity for people and communities to come together in the spirit of generosity.
In just one week we welcome you to join this global movement and support The Siskiyou School through our Annual Giving campaign.
This year we have made it easy to donate via Give Lively, or you may choose to donate via cash or check. Every dollar, in support of our school, is received with so much appreciation and gratitude.
Winter Assembly - Wednesday, December 13, 6:30 p.m.
We are excited to see you at our all-school holiday assembly. At Winter Assembly grades 1 through 8 will bring presentations of music, verse, and movement. The evening ends with the whole community singing together. All students are expected to attend and to come dressed in their best for this celebration.
Details about Seating:
It has always been a tradition for the Winter Assembly to be open to our whole community, including alumni, grandparents, and friends. We have used many venues in the past that were able to accommodate this larger audience. The venue available to us this year is SOU Music Recital Hall, and as such we will need to keep our audience smaller. The music hall is a beautiful environment but has very limited seating.
The audience will be for immediate family (guardians, parents, siblings) of current Siskiyou students only.
The assembly will be videotaped and we're happy to offer extended family and friends the opportunity to view the performance online in the following weeks. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions regarding this, please email or contact Kristin.
Look for more details about the assembly in the week of December 11th.
Brain Bowl Team Forming - Still looking for a Coach!
Middle School parents - Does your child love trivia? Are they constantly bombarding you with random facts? Then they sound perfect for joining the Siskiyou School Brain Bowl team, please email coaches Kristin Beers at kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org.
Practices will be one hour after school, once weekly, day to be determined. Matches take place during the school day (probably at lunch), once a week from Jan through Feb. Brain Bowl students are required to keep up with their school work, making up any material missed due to matches. Team members are also asked to do some studying on their own time. All that said, it’s so much fun!
Brain Bowl is an international competition hosted through SOU Youth Programs. The Siskiyou School Team competes with middle schools in the valley and are current Division B Champions! For more information see their page HERE or watch the 2019 competition HERE.
Please note if we do not have a coach that is available to travel with the team to away games during the week, we will need to cancel our team this year. If you're interested in coaching, please let Kristin know!
The Siskiyou School Kindergarten
The life of the kindergarten revolves around the living arts described as domestic arts (joyful practical work and meaningful daily activities), nurturing arts (self-care, care of others and the environment) , social arts (learning and growing together as a class community), and creative arts (painting, drawing, sewing, crafting, story, plays and puppets shows). The children have been enjoying their school days, and contribute to classroom community life each day. In the past month, we have made beautiful lanterns, polished our wooden boards for outdoor play, polished wooden toys inside, sewn many gnomes and made muffins together. Joyful work inspires a love of learning and growing, caring for ourselves, others and the environment. Singing as we work and play brings joy to our days.

November 30 Supporting Resiliency in Children 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Join us for a morning coffee covering this important topic on how to build and support resiliency for all members of your family. Resiliency is a critical quality needed to meet challenges and to mitigate stress. Children (and adults) who lack resiliency can get easily overwhelmed and turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms under stress. Resilient people tap into their strengths and have tools to work through challenges. In this coffee talk, we will look at the core “pillars” of resiliency and how to strengthen them with your family.
December 5 The Drama Triangle 9:15-10:30 a.m.
This morning coffee talk will explain how we (mostly unconsciously) move into rigid roles within a family or social system to try to get our needs met. As long as the triangle is in play, there is no effective communication or problem solving. Being able to recognize when these dynamics are at play and to “step off the triangle” supports all members of the family in creative problem solving and empowers children with effective tools for handling social challenge. This is a gift we give them for life!
December 12 Tools For Self-Parenting 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Being able to “parent” ourselves means having tools for self-regulation so we can support our children from a balanced and calm place. As we learn to identify and work with triggers, we can heal those parts of ourselves that may not have been parented with compassion and patience. This coffee talk will also offer a look at attachment styles so we can be conscious of how we were raised. With awareness, reactions are transformed to responses which makes for creating secure attachment with our children.
THIS WEEKEND! Ashland Children's Theatre presents - The Rumpelstiltskin Project and Of Mice & Muffins (a Puss in Boots story) Tickets available online only at www.ashlandchildrenstheatre.com. Written and directed by Eve Smyth, and included in the cast are Siskiyou School's Azie (7th grade) and Kalila (8th grade).
It’s a twist on the classic story of Rumpelstiltskin - who is Rumpelstiltskin really? And why does he help the miller’s daughter? Take a greedy king, an alchemist in search of a minty otter, add a bragging father, and throw in some culinary trolls and you’ve got the makings of an entertaining story with fun surprises along the way. Simple joys and generosity save the day and yes, straw is spun into gold!
In an Italian inspired romp filled with baked goods, Of Mice & Muffins, follows the adventures of Constantio and his brilliant cat - who also has a fairy helper! Magic, muffins, and love abound!
