Pierce Downer This Week

Pierce Downer Families,

This week only had four school days but I think we squeezed about seven days of activities! Between field trips and field day, our students hopefully created some wonderful Pierce Downer memories. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who helped to support the wildly successful events, especially this week's Field Day and the 6th-grade breakfast.

Coming up next week, students will be turning in their iPads (if they haven't already) so please make sure students are returning their iPad, charger, and case!

As a reminder, the last day of school is Wednesday, June 7th and will be an 11:30 dismissal.

We will also have our 6th grade ClapOut at 11:15 on June 7th. 6th grade parents who would like to attend should meet by the main office at 11:10am. Parents/family will be outside for the event.

Pierce would love to join your family on their summer adventures! Please take a picture of Pierce the Panther wherever you may be. It could be the pool, amusement park, festival, sporting event, vacation, really anything at all. Look for him in your child’s take home binder, one Pierce per family will be sent home.

Thank you to our amazing parents that helped organize the 6th grade breakfast. The day was filled with delicious food, wonderful company, a slideshow that took a trip down memory lane, heartfelt parent messages, and words of encouragement from coach Josh.

We will miss you, 6th graders!

Congratulations to Mrs. Murphy on being this week's PD Cup recipient. Mrs. Murphy is a third grade teacher at Pierce Downer School. She is regularly bringing her fun, engaging personality to her classroom and is committed to the success of all her students.

The PTA Summer Math Club is open to students entering grades K-8. It provides participating

students with three math packets for each grade level over the summer that feature a variety of

fun and interesting math activities, designed to keep young math minds active all summer long.

After students submit each completed packet, they will receive prizes and their next math

packet.

1. Your first (white) Summer Math Club packet will be distributed to you at school in the last

weeks of school. Each packet contains three opportunities to earn a prize - triangle, circle and

star. Complete each activity within that shape to earn the prize for that shape. Earn up to three

prizes for each packet! Math activities include a variety of fun options, including Math Task

worksheets that are also included in the packet.

2. Once you’ve completed your white packet, come into the Downers Grove Public Library on

one of the dates listed below to collect prizes for each shape you’ve completed, have your Math

Task worksheets reviewed with a high school student and pick up your next packet.

3. Complete three packets (white, green then yellow) over the course of the summer to keep

your math mind sharp and earn fun prizes!

District 58 has partnered with Safe2Help to give students a safe and confidential way to report potential threats or crises. Safe2Help was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 and aims to help prevent suicide, bullying, school violence and other threats to school safety.

With Safe2Help, students can connect with a trained crisis professional during their own crisis, or to report a potential threat. Students can submit a Safe2Help alert via the following ways:

District 58 staff are not the initial responders to the alert and will receive each alert after the Safe2Help professional provides support. District 58 staff will review alerts sent by Safe2Help during regular school hours, unless the nature of the alert necessitates immediate school action.
