As we begin to enter the spring award season I am excited to announce that seniors Sarah Sexton and Hailey Ritchie have both been given an Aspirations in Computing Award from the National Council of Women in Technology (NCWIT) and the NCWIT Indiana Chapter.

Sarah won, for the second year in a row, 2021 National Honorable Mention (1 of 400 in over 4,200 applicants and 1 of only 6 in the State of Indiana) and also a 2021 Regional Award Winner for Indiana.

Hailey won a 2021 Regional Certificate of Distinction.

This week WCC staff had to a take a break from their Spring Break diets to participate in judging the cakes baked by our Culinary Arts students. Each student was able to develop their own design and created the cakes from scratch. The cakes were then evaluated on appearance and taste by self proclaimed experts in the world of cake consumption such as myself. Winners will be announced next week!

The students in Welding I and II have been working on some exciting projects over the past few weeks. These projects started out as some rough ideas and the students were able to create the plans and bring to life some beautiful custom pieces. Several of these projects have also required collaboration with our Precision Machining and Auto Collision programs. Great to see the students working together across programs and sharing their skillsets.

Students in Intro to Construction are currently building frames and working on cutting angles. Building the frames and working with angles is helping prepare students for working with trim and other finishing pieces next year when they move on Construction Trades.

Students in our Graphics program were able to talk with workers in the Graphic Industry last week when we they installed the new lettering in the WCHS Gymnasium. The installation staff was able to talk with students about their career and educational path that got them into the Graphic Industry. They were also able to see the impact that the graphics had in changing the look and feel of an area of the stadium.

The MSD of Warren Township Adult & Continuing Education offers high school equivalency and English language acquisition instruction and industry-recognized career training. In an effort to increase awareness and understanding around the opportunities available to students and families, our amazing Adult Education team produced a video providing an overview of their available programs. Please take this opportunity to share this video with students who are exiting high school, parents in need of a high school equivalency diploma, or students and families who hold a high school diploma and want to earn a career certification.
