PEACE DAY 2022 - Wednesday 21st September
Children are encouraged to dress up in their cultural outfits on that day. This could be in the form of a traditional outfit or colours that represent their culture.
REMINDER: Please remember to bring in PE/Swimming kits if your child has those lessons on a Wednesday as they will need to change.
Who We Are
Central Idea: People’s cultures and beliefs can contribute to the diversity of different communities
The students will inquire through a variety of learning engagements based on the following inquiry questions:
What do different cultures and belief systems look like?
How are cultural belief systems similar or different?
Why do we need to appreciate other people's cultures and beliefs?
We are well underway with our unit and the children have started sharing their culture bags with their class; bringing in examples of clothes, books, festivals and traditions that represent their culture. They are doing a wonderful job of presenting to their classmates and sharing the information. This is generating many interesting questions and discussions about beliefs and values, establishing what is important to each individual, as well as within our classes and the school community.
The upcoming Year 3 Cultural Day on Wednesday 21 September will provide an insight into different traditions and practices within certain cultures. The children will play cultural games, develop their art skills and learn more about special festivals celebrated within our community. They will have the opportunity to undertake personal inquiries; researching cultural groups of interest to them.

Swimming News
Next week will be Swim Safety Week.
All students will take part in this session whether they are swimming in the pool or not. For our students that are not swimming they will be taught aspects of swim safety separately and will not remove their face mask or get into the water.
For swim safety week students need to bring in a big T-shirt to wear on swimming that day IN ADDITION to their usual swim kit. Only white or light coloured clothing will be permitted in the pool as dark colours react with the chlorine.
This is a big safety component to our swimming programme in the Summer term where we introduce the students to what it feels like to be fully clothed when swimming. The children will also experience basic life saving techniques should they fall into a body of water.
AT ALL TIMES THEY WILL BE UNDER STRICT SUPERVISION THE AQUAKIDZ EXPERIENCED AND FULLY ACCREDITED TEACHERS.

After School Arrangements
Home Learning is on the VLE
Students will continue to receive their weekly home spelling words on Friday each week.
Please ensure your child learns these words and writes two of the words into their own sentences in their pink spelling journal. This should be completed by the following Thursday, ready to be tested in school.
Mathletics tasks will also be assigned on a Friday weekly to be completed for the following Thursday.
Also, please make sure your child is reading each evening for at least 20 minutes. Please remember to sign your child's reading record after hearing them read each night.
