
Using Kaltura in Canvas

Creating Videos in Kaltura 🎥
Step 1. Access Canvas Course
Log in to your Canvas course.
Step 2. Open Kaltura Capture
Look for Kaltura, or "My Media", in your course. Click "My Media" to open the Kaltura interface. You will be asked to grant access if this is your first time accessing Kaltura.
3. Click "Add New" for New Recording
To create a new recording, you will need to click "Add New", then Kaltura Capture.
4. Download Kaltura Capture
If you haven't installed Kaltura Capture, download and install it on your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
5. Launch Kaltura Capture
Open Kaltura Capture and log in with your Canvas credentials.
6. Configure Recording Settings
Select the recording settings such as screen area, webcam, and audio input. Ensure your microphone and webcame (if needed) are properly configured.
Select "record area" and select the size of your PowerPoint presentation. If you choose entire screen, the PowerPoint presentation will block your "Record" button.
7. Start Recording
Click on the "Record" button to start capturing your audio and screen presentation. Perform your presentation as you normally would.
8. Stop and Upload
Once you finish, click on the "Stop" button. This recording will automatically be saved into "My Media".
*Please note: Depending on the size/length of the video and your internet connection, it may take up to one hour to upload and appear.
Now that I have my video, how do I add it to my course?
1. Access My Media
Go into your Canvas course. Locate and click "My Media".
2. Locate Your Video
Find the recently recorded video in the "My Media" section.
3. Publish the Video
Click on the video you want to publish, and then click "Actions". In the drop-down menu, click "Publish". Follow the prompts to publish the video.
Allowing Third Party Cookies in Kaltura
What are Cookies? 🍪
Digital cookies are tiny bits of data that websites store about you on your computer. This data is primarily used by websites to help remember pieces of information about you like browsing preferences and items saved in your shopping cart.
While cookies are generally harmless and serve a useful purpose, some people prefer to block websites from accessing them due to privacy concerns.

If this message appears, this means you need to enable third-party cookies in your browser in order to access Kaltura. Below are instructions for allowing third-party cookies on both Safari and Google Chrome.
Enabling Cookies on Safari
- Once Safari is open, click where it says "Safari" on the top left of your screen.
- Click "Settings" in the drop-down menu to open up your Safari Settings.
3. In the "Settings" panel, click "Advanced".
4. Under "Privacy", find where it says "Block all cookies". Uncheck the box to the left and reload your Kaltura page. You should now have access.
Enabling Cookies on Google Chrome
1. Open Google Chrome and click the three dots on the top right side of your browser to open a drop-down menu. At the bottom of this menu, select "Settings".
2. After opening the settings window, click where it says "Privacy and security" on the lefthand side of the screen.
3. Select "Third-party cookies". Here you will see default options for third-party cookies. Select the first option titled "Allow third-party cookies".

Enabling Cookies on Microsoft Edge
1. Locate and click the three dots located on the top right-hand side of your web browser.
2. This will open a new window. Scroll down and click "Settings" next to the gear icon.
3. Click "Privacy, search, and services".
4. Select "Balanced".
5. Click "Add a site". This will open up a new window. Type https://nyit.instructure.com into the "Add a site" window and click "Add".
