Hawks Happenings Monthly Newsletter
October 2022 Edition
Principal's Corner: Lots of events and opportunities in October!
Hello Hawks Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well. September has flown by and our students are back into those steady school routines. We are seeing a bit if an uptick in assignments, homework, and the stresses that come with it over these past few weeks. Our teachers and counselors are here to stretch our students without straining them. We want our students to be challenged in their studies but not at the expense of savoring the waning years of childhood. I encourage our families to share the successes and struggles you are noticing with our teachers during the upcoming fall conferences, as we will share the progress of your student's learning so far this school year.
We've spent the past month focusing on the CP Way theme of "Recognizing Your Energy" looking at the worries and wonders students have at the start of a new school year, and how we cope with stress in healthy and unhealthy ways. October's CP Way focus will be centered on the theme of "Act Purposefully" with school wide lessons designed to look at the power of words and how to break bad habits.
We also celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of student led activities. Our morning announcements have included a fun fact of the day centered on Hispanic heritage, and our Latino club has been making paper murals like the one imaged below on Frida Kahlo.
In this October edition of the Hawks Happening monthly newsletter we will share information about our upcoming Parent/Teacher conferences, FAFSA and other senior focus events, Homecoming 2022 details, and much more. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out us.
Thanks and Go Hawks!
Robert Aguilar, Principal
Prefer to text us? Now you can!
To text the College Place High School main office the number is: 509-629-2601 (save this number as CPHS Text Line. Please note that it is a different number from the main telephone line.)
For excusing attendance or asking a quick question the texting feature could be an easier option for families, rather than calling in to speak with office secretaries Lori or Olivia directly. Texts will only be considered received if they are sent during regular school hours (7:30am-4:00pm) when the main office is open.
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences: Oct. 17-20
Each of our teachers has created a Sign-Up Genius link that you can use to sign-up for a ten minute timeslot with that teacher. You can choose which teachers to meet with and the sign-ups should offer enough flexibility to pick a time that works with your schedule.
We will have evening conference options on Monday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 19 and a full day of timeslot options on Thursday, October 20.
Student do not have school on Monday, Oct. 17, Thursday, Oct. 20, and Friday Oct. 21 of that week to accommodate these conferences.
If you wish to meet with the teacher virtually, a zoom link can be provided to you. We ask that families request that directly with the teacher. Teachers will be communicating directly with their families and sending the Sign-Up Genius links to you via Skyward communications.
We will also have Spanish translator staff on site to assist any families that would like that resource.
The flier below has a QR code you can scan to access the Sign-Up Genius links as well. You can also access directly via our website.
We are also happy to take your phone calls and can help schedule times for you with teachers directly. You can call us at 509-522-3312.
Thank you, and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out!
FAFSA and WASFA Financial Aid Night Events: Monday, October 3
Whether your senior believes they will head to college straight from high school, or a work based higher education institution, the FAFSA financial aid can be applied to any form of higher education expenses. We encourage all of our seniors to complete the FAFSA.
Students and their families will need to bring with them their 2021 Tax Returns, social security numbers, and drivers license. If you have completed ahead of time a FSA ID having that information is also handy. However, the FSA ID is something most families will create once they begin the FAFSA online process.
We will also be having a second FAFSA and WASFA (Washington State Financial Aid) evening event on Wednesday, October 5th from 5:00-8:00pm at Valle Lindo. This event is more geared towards our Spanish speaking families. See flier below for more details.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Ms. Blethen, Ms. Ponds, or Mr. Derting. Thank you!
