Nonfiction Articles for your Students!
Have you heard of TweenTribune? It is a website filled with articles on current events for K-12 students! TweenTribune Jr. is geared towards K-4. Reading levels are listed on the right side of the page. Students can also choose their reading topic of choice - animals, fashion, sports, etc. How can you use it in the classroom? In the simplest form, as a choice for nonfiction reading on the computers. Work on summarizing, differentiating fact from opinion, etc. Want to dive into the tool? You can create a classroom account where students have the ability to respond to the articles (this meets a number of METS standards)! Let me know if you want to discuss how this tool might support your students in the area of nonfiction reading and writing.
METS ConnECT Pilot
This student is using the iPad camera for the first time to take a photo of a number in the classroom. He demonstrated his ability to "zoom in," and it wasn't even a skill that was taught yet! Our students are so knowledgeable when it comes to technology use! Want to receive updates on our METS ConnECT pilot?
