AHS Featured Club: FTC
The FTC Advisor, Mrs. White, said “FTC is a great program that encourages students to use their brain for sport. The skills learned on the FTC team are essential to their futures.”
Besides competing, the group promotes several community fundraising projects such as the Haunted Museum, the APS Family Fun Nights, The Christmas Stroll, scrimmage competitions, Dart wars, dodgeball, carwashes, movie nights, and more. Angel Ochoa, a member of FTC, stated, “I was suggested to join FTC and FTC is a fun group because of working together and learning new skills.”
White hopes to continue to see her students compete at the regional, state and hopefully world competitions with this year's final competition for FTC occurring in April 2023.
“This is a great opportunity to do and be part of something different, learn new things and build new skills to further increase your desirability in today's workforce,” said White.

By: Ethan Thomas
Alexander Public School has basketball and wrestling for winter sports coming up for the high school. Carlton Turnquist and AJ Allard are the coaches for these sports. Boys High School basketball starts the Monday after Thanksgiving break and wrestling started November 7th.
This upcoming season will be Carlton’s second year coaching here at Alexander. Carlton graduated and was a state qualifier for wrestling at Alexander. Carlton wants kids to go out for wrestling to find and continue to improve their limits.
The upcoming boys' basketball season will be AJ’s 9th year in all coaching but his 4th year at Alexander. AJ coached girls high school basketball for 3 years at Grenora and 2 years Junior high girls at Bainville. AJ wants kids to play basketball to be part of a team.

Leadership with Calli Thorne
By: Kenzie Suko
6th and 7th grade students get to experience Calli Thorne's leadership training classes two days a week every two weeks.
Thorne is a keynote speaker, global leadership trainer, and a life coach with the Maxwell Leadership team. She works with a wide variety of organizations and clients such as youth from schools, agricultural organizations, women in leadership, and several other teams and individuals.
Calli is also a Mental Health First Aid facilitator helping people to know what to do in times of mental health distress. 7th grader, Trinity Hernandez says her favorite part of Calli's class is when she makes them write positive things about each other and themselves.
Calli has students work on various activities to enforce students to become leaders. She also shares new vocab words that have positive meanings.
Thorne loves her job because she connects with others to help them gain confidence skills. She likes seeing the impact her students make on themselves, people around them, and their communities. Calli gets to travel and meet people that challenge her to do better.
Alexander Middle School welcomes Calli back every year to teach students, “leadership and character traits,” said Shannon Faller, Alexander Middle and High School Principal, who continues to see students develop positive traits from this experience.
