Introducing the DWS Role Model of the Month

The DWS Role Model of the Month is a new award that we will give to one student at each grade level during our monthly assembly. Teachers and staff will select a student who sets an example for their peers and as someone who is dedicated, welcoming, and safe, our DWS Values.

Would you like to share your family tradition or a holiday you celebrate during the winter?

Our DEI Committee will be hosting a Winter Holiday Celebration on Thursday, December 14 from 5:30-7:00. This is an opportunity for families to join together and share their holiday traditions (food, information, dance/song, etc). We are looking for families that would like to share their family culture and traditions. Please let Mrs. MacNeil know if you are interested!

Elementary Conferences

Elementary Conferences will be held on Monday, November 6, 6:00-8:00 PM and Wednesday, November 8, 1:30-3:30 PM. We will be using PTCFAST for online scheduling, which allows parents/guardians to be in charge of their conference schedules.

Parents/guardians can access the conference sign-ups by clicking on a link that will be put on the DWS webpage on Thursday, November 2, at 3:00pm using the following steps:

Accessing PTCFAST.com:

· From the DWS webpage, click on http://ptcfast.com/schools/Dan...

· A list of all teachers (by grade or subject) will be displayed.

· Click on the names of your student’s teachers with whom you wish to conference.

· Select a time and enter the required information (student’s and parent’s name and email).

· PTCFAST.com will send you an email confirmation. The email will give you information if you need to change your appointment and will send you a reminder of appointments.

As always, appointments do book quickly and are on a first come, first served basis. If you are unable to access an appointment with your student’s teacher, please contact that teacher to discuss your student at a different date/time. If you have any questions about the scheduling process, please contact Mrs. Jackson at jjackson@mpsd.org or Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Morris at (781) 834-5045.

DWS Weekly All Stars

DWS staff members can award any student with a DWS ALL STAR when they see students being Dedicated, Welcoming, or Safe. All of the DWS ALL STAR awards are put on display in the front lobby. The following students were featured in the morning announcements last week for being DWS ALL-STARS!


Grade K: T.J. in Ms. Dyer’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he was on his best behavior in the classroom.

Grade K: Max in Ms. Dyer’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he was a good helper during Morning Meeting.


Grade 1: James in Mrs. MacDonald’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he was dedicated to his reading when working with Ms. McBride.

Grade 1: PJ in Mrs. Bertulli’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he earned 100 dojos!


Grade 2: Mason in Mrs. Auriemma’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he is always there to help!

Grade 2: Jack M. in Ms. Mulligan’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he was respectful during Library.


Grade 3: Dylan in Mrs. Hanson’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he showed expected behavior on the field trip.

Grade 3: Jackson K. in Mrs. Hines’ class is a DWS ALL STAR because he showed expected behavior on the field trip.


Grade 4: Eleanor in Mrs. Robatzek’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she worked hard to show her thinking in Math.

Grade 4: Reyad in Mrs. Robatzek’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he was a role model during the monthly assembly.


Grade 5: Bradley in Mrs. Drew’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because he pushed in all of the chairs after Chorus.

Grade 5: Raja in Mrs. Drew’s class is a DWS ALL STAR because she stayed focused on her work.

PTO Board Position Available: We urgently need a Co-Treasurer! With hundreds of payments coming in through Venmo, ptboard, cash and checks, it's a lot for one person to manage. If you are interested in this position please reach out to a board member or email yourdwspto@gmail.com. Voting will take place at our next meeting on 11/13.


Please join the DWS PTO on PTBoard, today! PTBoard is an online platform that we will be using to communicate school information, events and volunteer opportunities to families. This event is open to ALL parents/caregivers. It is sponsored by the Marshfield Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). The presentation is a comprehensive introduction into special education laws and procedures. It will delve into the purpose of the law, referrals, evaluations, and the team meeting process including determining eligibility. Further discussion will focus on services, placement, and what to do when you receive a proposed IEP. You will also learn what to do if the student is not eligible and the parent's procedural due process rights for resolving disputes.

Participation is easy!

1. Register your school. https://antons.com/cfk/get-involved/coat-drive/

2. Select your drive date(s) and location. A drive can last a day, a week, a month, or the entirety of our coat drive (October 2, 2023 - January 7, 2024). Pick a length of time within the official Coats for Kids & Families collection dates that work for you and your community.

3. Spread the word! Tell your community about your coat with Coats for Kids! Check out our promotional materials and edit your own flyer!

4. Collect warm winter coats for children and adults.

5. For schools participating in School Rewards: Drop off the collected coats at any Anton's Cleaners. Anton's will clean the coats, free of charge, and ensure they get to those who need them the most! You can drop off coats as often as you'd like throughout the program's collection dates (October 2, 2023 - January 7, 2024)

Open Lab Night

The Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE) invites you to Open Lab Night 2023, an event for the entire community, especially K-12 students. Open Lab Night features STEM activities and demonstrations. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is available in the Bridgewater State University Parking Garage. The BSU Observatory may be open until 9:00 PM (weather permitting).

All student meals will continue to be free for the 2023-2024 school year. One breakfast and one lunch are FREE for all students.


A la carte items cost extra. Please note: a la carte items can not be charged to a student's account.

Milk - .75 cents (milk comes with lunch) on its own, it's an a la carte item and cost

Message from our School Nurse Mrs. Campbell

Please remember to send your students to school with a reusable water bottle and filling snack daily!

  • All students have a snack break during the day. Please pack a healthy snack EVERY DAY! Great snacks include easy-to-eat fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, carrots, and cucumbers as well as whole grain snacks including granola bars, and crackers. Cheese sticks and yogurts are another great option. These ideas help keep hungry bellies at bay and students ready to learn!

  • Have your child bring a water bottle (or two) from home EVERY DAY. Students are able to use the bottle-filling stations throughout the day to refill bottles as needed.


General Information


  • Mandated Health Screening Information:

    • The following state-mandated screenings of students will be completed this year by the school nurse.

      • Grades PK thru 5: Vision Screening (October - December)

      • Grade PK thru 3: Hearing Screening (October - December)

      • Postural screening for grade 5 in October - a letter will be sent home with more information.

      • Grades 1, 4: Heights and weights with BMI calculations per DPH regulations (October -December)

    • A parent/guardian may opt out of these mandated screenings only through written notification to the school nurse by October 8th.

    • These are only screenings and NOT a diagnostic service. Failures or concerns regarding the results will warrant further assessment by the child's physician. Specific recommendations will be sent home in writing/phone call for vision, hearing and postural screening.

  • All GRADE 4 students must send in a physical exam dated within the past year. Thank you to those who have already sent in their forms.


  • Please log in to your child’s Aspen account and update all information including the medication consent portion, this is something that needs to be done yearly. *This cannot be done on your handheld device/cell phone*

  • All medical documentation can be faxed to 339-244-2242 to the attention of the School Nurse.

Boys and Girls Club Before and After School Programs

The Boys & Girls Club Programs provide a wholesome environment that promotes social/emotional, physical and character development in addition to supporting the educational efforts of both the parent and school. We encourage children to balance learning and fun through homework help, physical activity and arts & crafts. Our focus areas give your child limitless opportunities to reach their full potential.

Driveway Dismissal Safety

As a reminder, please adhere to the DWS Dismissal Protocols if you choose to pick up your child from school (listed below). Dismissal time can be very busy and we understand that we are the late school and families are often rushing off to afterschool activities. It has been reported that some cars are pulling in and doing a U-Turn in the driveway to cut the line. Please follow the protocol and the flow of traffic pictured below so we don't compromise the safety of our children. Thank you!


Dismissal


  • DWS hours are 8:50am-3:30pm. Students will begin car line dismissal at 3:25 pm.

  • If you arrive before 3:25, please remain in your vehicle.

  • Please do not park your vehicle in the live line.

  • In the car line, students will be dismissed in order of car line up through the gym doors.

  • Please follow staff directions and pull all the way up to the marked location (red circle).

  • Please wait for the car in front of you to pull forward. Do not attempt to pass vehicles.

DWS Expectations

As part of our Positive Behavior and Incentives Plan, our DWS Kids are taught how to be Dedicated, Welcoming, and Safe in all areas of our building and throughout their day. These posters are reviewed on the morning announcements, by classroom teachers, and are hung around the school for visual reminders. Students are then recognized for following these expectations and given All-Stars!
