Updates from the principal's office
Dear Sward Families:
Wow! What a difference one week makes in terms of the temperature! Now that the weather has become much more "winter-like" please remember that we still go out for recess as much as possible. Even though it is chilly, the fresh air is wonderful! I typically tell the students that if they wore it to school, they should wear it to recess. Please remember to dress your child for the weather knowing they will likely be outside for recess unless it is raining, snowing, or super duper cold.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
Your partner in education,
Mrs. Candy Kramer

Message from Nurse Dina
With flu cases on the rise in our community it is important to review basic good health practices to limit the spread of infection. It is vital to maintain good nutrition, personal hygiene, proper rest and proper hydration. Symptoms of the flu include stomach ache, fever, sore throat, chills, cough, headache , body aches, vomiting and /or diarrhea. A student who has fever, vomiting, diarrhea or constant cough associated with the flu, should be kept home for 24 hours after symptoms subsided. Please do not send students to school if they report flu-like symptoms. Keeping students home when sick decreases the spread of illnesses and allows them to get the proper amount of rest needed to fight off the illness. With everyone's cooperation we can assist in keeping our school community healthy.
Fire Department Coloring Contest
The Oak Lawn Fire Department is having their coloring book contest for Grades K-4. The coloring books came home a few weeks ago. Entries are due to the Sward Office by: Friday, Dec 2nd.
Math Outside of School
When you "catch your child" using real life math outside of school, please send a photo and statement of explanation to ckramer@d123.org . Check out this example of our Eagle adding up his score at the end of his golf tournament. The photos and explanations will be added to a "Math Outside of School" bulletin board for all to see.
