Arena conferences are a time for you to meet with all your child’s teachers individually. Typically, you will spend 5 minutes with each teacher learning what your student is doing well and how you can help support them. Teachers will be in the lower gym or lunchroom ready to meet with you and your student. Drop by during the times listed above to talk with the teachers you need to see.
Scheduled conferences are conferences set up by the school to have a more focused conversation about specific concerns and supports needed. If you feel you and your student would benefit from a scheduled conference with multiple teachers simultaneously, contact the office to see if there are times available. They will put you in contact with the conference scheduler.
If you can’t make it to conferences, no problem! Teachers are always available to talk with you about your student’s progress. Feel free to email them or call them with questions and concerns.
Hispanic Heritage Celebration
On October 11th, we held a Hispanic Heritage Night for families. There were Latin treats, bracelet making, crafts, indoor soccer, music, and time with friends. Thank you to Maria Londono and Maria Wuollet for making this a successful night.
Homeroom Time
During Homeroom in October we reviewed what Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying is and how to report incidents at school. Protected classes were also reviewed as an important part of this discussion.
Intervention & Reward Time has also started. Students with grades lower than a C are assigned to a teacher to review concepts, catch up on work, or retake assessments. Students with C grades and above earn a reward time for keeping caught up.
In November, students will also have a Veteran's Day Assembly and activities related to "gratitude."
Homeroom Time also provides a base for this support in relation to career and college readiness goals which are key to helping students prepare for their future. This time connects to our mission: To prepare all students for responsible citizenship, gainful employment, and post-secondary admission.

STUDENT HEALTH
COVID Guideline are updated by the Department of Health. Click on the DOH guidelines for what to do if you are exposed or if you test positive for Covid: Decision Tree.
Cell Phone Policy
Students should have all personal cell phones and electronic devices turned off during class time. Cell phones used during class time will be confiscated and placed in the office until after school. Repeated occurrences of unauthorized use of personal electronic devices could result in progressive discipline.
Closed Campus Reminders
Kalama School District has a closed campus. Students 6-12 should not be in the parking lot during the school day. The only exception is for 11th and 12th graders who have a permission slip signed by their guardian and the school administration.
Seniors: Some 12th graders might have a "Dismissed Period" giving them permission to leave campus. Signed permission slips are required.
11th/12th graders during lunch: During lunch, 11th/12th graders with permission may leave during lunch. Students must have a signed permission slip and they must follow the school expectations. Leaving campus is a privilege.
9th/10th Graders DO NOT have permission to go to the parking lot or leave campus. Students are expected to stay in the designated areas during lunch which does not include the parking lot or the front of the high school.
Parking Regulation Reminders
The safety of students and staff is very important. Driving on campus is a privilege. Students may maintain that privilege by following the school expectations.
All students must register any vehicle that is to be driven on campus during school hours. One sticker will be issued per student. The sticker is to be placed in the back of the vehicle window and may be transferred between registered vehicles in their name. Students are responsible for their vehicle and are liable for any damages or sanctions caused by the operation of that vehicle regardless of who is driving. The school district is not responsible for damage to vehicles driven or parked on the Kalama High School District campus.
Students are not allowed to park in the lower parking lot by the high school or by the church. These areas are for staff only. Students should park in the lot by the gym or the stadium.
