OLD NEWS
SBAC testing -- Just a "heads-up" that 3rd and 4th graders will be taking the SBAC test after April break. We recommend that each student bring in their own set of WIRED headphones. Wireless headphones do not work, and students do not like the school headphones in general. A cheap pair (think 5 Below, not Apple Store) is fine. A microphone is not necessary.
Copies of Health Assessment (physical exam) forms: Parents, please be sure to make a copy of the students physical forms prior to sending them into school and to contact your pediatrician office if you need a replacement copy. We do not provide copies of those forms.
Junior Achievement --

How: We need two parent volunteers for each classroom and grade level, who will teach the class together with JA Learning Kits.
JA in a Day Learning Kits will be distributed by early/ mid Aprilβ more information to come!

π This Week's Flyers:
Fly me to the Moon!
Our 3rd-Grade students were engaged in a play-based learning unit this week wherein they made models of the Apollo 11 rocket and lunar module.
Students wrote a brief description of what they created based on their learning in Wit and Wisdom Module 2, which is titled Outer Space. Throughout the module, they have been learning about the history of space and how it has changed over time. This play-based project focused on their understanding of Apollo 11 and its mission. Students worked together in collaborative groups to create the Apollo 11 spacecraft and any additional details to enhance their projects.
Youth to Youth visits BHS
The Shelton High School Youth -to-Youth organization visited 4th grade P.E. classes to present information about risks of using tobacco and vaping. The Youth 2 Youth program has been in existence for the past 25 years
High school students who live in Shelton meet weekly to explore youth issues, plan community
service projects, learn new life skills and train to become youth mentors/educators.
This peer/community service group prepares young people for their roles in society in the areas
of personal growth, leadership, and community involvement.

OLD BUSINESS:
Friday Lunch -- Our Friday lunch money has been low the past few weeks. Please be sure to label your money with a sticky note or hand it to Dina or Tina. People have had to put in extra to cover for the shortage.
Book Club for April will be Broken Country by Claire Leslie Hall:
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Bethβs brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesnβt realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenagerβthe man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident. As Beth is pulled back into Gabrielβs life, tensions around the village rise and dangerous secrets and jealousies from the past resurface, this time with deadly consequences. Beth is forced to make a choice between the woman she once was, and the woman she has become. A sweeping love story with the pace and twists of a thriller, Broken Country is a novel of simmering passion, impossible choices, and explosive consequences that toggles between the past and present to explore the far-reaching legacy of first love.
Classroom Assignments for 2025 - 2026 -- It is time to look at grade assignments for next year. If you are interested in a change in assignment, please let me know prior to April Break.
Time Sheets -- Aa always, all paraeducators and tutors are asked to sign in daily with accurate times. You need to be at your first assignment at your start time, not entering the building or parking lot.
NWEA -- Grades K-2 will have NWEA testing May 13 - 16 in the morning. Grade 3 & 4 testing has been postponed until we we can reassess after SBAC.
SBAC testing -- will take place after April vacation. The schedule can be found here.
