SCES 22-23 Areas of Focus
Each year our leadership team analyzes student performance data to develop our school improvement plan and determine our area of focus. Based on MCPS goals and the outcome of our 21-22 student data, we will focus on the following areas during the upcoming school year:
- Continued development of student literacy and math skills
- Ongoing implementation of equitable teaching and learning practices
- Building students' social and emotional intelligence
It is our hope that by embracing our differences and creating opportunities for increased literacy, math, and leadership development our students will be happy and meet their academic milestones.
Summer School
Our summer program was outstanding! Students took part in reading, math, art, PE, and yoga/stretching throughout their 4 weeks of summer school. As a way to gather input, we asked our student scholars to provide us with feedback on their summer school experience. Here is what they reported:
- 93% believed it helped to improve their reading
- 90% believed it helped to improve their math skills
- Only 1 student reported not liking summer school
We are thrilled that an overwhelming number of students were happy and felt as though their math and/or reading skills have increased as a result of summer school. Great job to our students for their hard work and commitment to their learning.
Back-to-School Meet and Greet
Join us on Friday, August 26th from 2:30p-3:15p for a sneak peek of Sligo Creek. Students and parents are welcome to visit their classroom and become reacquainted or acquainted with our school.
Please contact the main office at 240-740-2800 if you have any questions.
Back to School Parent Q&A
As we prepare for our return to school I want to provide parents/caretakers an opportunity to ask any questions you may have pertaining to the start of school. Please keep in mind that responses are subject to revisions. You are encouraged to check back for updates and to review other questions/responses. Back-to-School Parent Q&A

School Cash Online
Message from MCPS:
Montgomery County Public Schools has transitioned to a new online payment system called SchoolCash Online as its preferred method of payment for all school-related fees.
SchoolCash Online helps parents/guardians and community members pay school-related fees safely, quickly, and easily. SchoolCash Online will help increase efficiency and security at schools by making payments directly into schools’ bank accounts and eliminating the need for teachers to handle money. In addition, once registered, you will be immediately informed about school activities!
Powered by KEV Group, SchoolCash Online is the industry leader in the management of school fees. The new system puts all of the school-related fees online for purchase so users can make purchases online using a credit card or e-check. A processing fee will be included on all items available for purchase, regardless of the type of payment used on SchoolCash Online or at the school.
Parents/guardians can register now at - https://mcpsmd.schoolcashonline.com/
Many Thanks to our PTA!
The PTA beautification project is underway and looks GREAT! From power washing to painting and planting flowers. We can't thank you enough for your commitment to SCES and the love you pour into us. Check out their work and remember to join the PTA. See link below.

Reminder- Summer Reading Challenge
We know that the most important thing kids can do during the summer to prevent learning loss is to continue reading so those reading and thinking skills remain sharp! Any reading helps, so allow your child to pick books that interest them and read for fun wherever they are! The pool, the park, at home – anywhere!
To enter this challenge, all students need to do is keep a summer reading log and write down the books they read over the summer. Then they will choose two books and write a postcard to Sligo Creek about their favorite books! All of the details, including blank postcards, will be sent home in a packet from your classroom teacher. They can also be found on our school website. Students who complete the challenge will be celebrated in September.- Happy Summer Reading!
