Good afternoon Mountain View parents/guardians,


I hope this communication finds you well. If it isn't one thing, it's the weather...


As a follow-up to Dr. Morillo's letter sent earlier today, please find below the link to a Form that must be submitted as soon as possible if you are opting for virtual learning (note that those who have already communicated this information do not need to complete the Form). This Form will also be used throughout the year, as described in Dr. Morillo's communication, for those wishing to transition from virtual to in-person learning or vice-versa.


To provide flexibility to families during the soft-reopening period, parents will be given the option to start the school year in-person and transition to virtual instruction any time between August 26 and September 4 (waiving the 15-day requirement). Those electing to do so must also complete the attached form when/if the decision is made to switch.

Announcements & Updates

- In an effort to maintain student cohorts and limit "mixing," the Related Arts schedule for all students will be based on a marking period rotation. Specific grade-level courses are as follows:
  • Grade 5: PE, Spanish, Art, Technology
  • Grade 6: PE, Spanish, General Music, STEM
  • Grade 7: PE, Spanish, Art, Technology
  • Grade 8: PE, Spanish, STEM, General Music

To continue to foster growth and interest in Band, Chorus, and Orchestra, Mountain View is exploring optional virtual lessons. Additional details will be shared as needed.


- To ensure access to online resources and allow for additional monitoring of student work and web platforms, all students will be given a district-issued Chromebook, which they will bring back and forth to school each day.


- Per the guidelines set forth in the district's "Restart and Recovery Plan," field trips are canceled until further notice.


- The district continues to await guidance regarding Middle School sports. County athletic directors are in communication, and information will be shared as it becomes available. Please click here for eligibility criteria if/when sports become available.


- Attention 6th grade parents: If you have not already done so, please review the contents of Mrs. Austenberg's July 27 email re: immunizations carefully.


- The tentative date for schedules to be released to the Parent Portal is Friday, August 14. As always, you will be required to complete forms, acknowledge policies, and update your contact information prior to gaining access to your child's schedule. An itemized list of forms and documents is forthcoming.


- Please find attached below the "soft-opening" split schedule. A reminder that Blue cohort (A-L) will attend in the morning and the Gold cohort (M-Z) will attend in the afternoon. Students attending virtually will follow the same schedule as their cohort and participate in synchronous instruction. In addition, all students will complete 1 hour of asynchronous instruction, largely focused on Language Arts and Mathematics.
