Editing
Last year I know I have implemented some editing skills into my media product however, I believe this year I have improved these skills a lot more. When we started editing our music video, I gained more knowledge of the process on how to work myself around it. This was mainly from the few mini extra tutorials I got on how to learn about the basics of Final Cut Pro better than compared to last year.
Base Tracks
In the beginning of the year, we have been set a practice tutorial on base tracks where we individually had to work ourselves around a performance of an Indie Rock band. We had to collect different base tracks into one and then make our editing look professional by cutting to shots from different angles and not keep the same one. Through this experiment I know that I mastered it well because I was able to do it correctly.
But what did I actually learn?
With Final Cut Pro I learnt how to import all the files on the software and then place it all as base tracks.
In the beginning it was hard for me to organise the base tracks correctly as I would make mistakes like deleting something on accident or putting a track where I didn't want it to be but after a while I was more confident with it as it only took few moments to fix my way around.
Another thing I learnt was using the red markers to be able to cut the camera shot off the beat.
I also learnt how to cut the clip and only use what we need which was to press....... .
Also locking the footage for a clip so then nothing will happen whilst editing.
Conventions..
Last year when our project was making a film opening on a teen movie, it didn't require much editing skills because they weren't necessary. However, when it came to making our music video, this is a concept being created from the beginning to end which meant we could be creative and include a variety of editing skills. Conventionally in music videos, you would have things like special effects, slow motion, lighting effects, transitions etc. Through this I was able to broaden my knowledge more compared to last last year as there is much more to learn.
What did I learn?
I learnt how to have slow motion which was to highlight the clip and to press L and K. We could also write the percentage of how we wanted the slow motion so how fast or how slow it should be.
To include transitions.
I have learnt how to adjust brightness and contrasting levels by just increases the bar or decreasing on Final Cut Pro.
Adding effects such as strobe light effect was hard in the beginning but then it was fine. I had to adjust the level of light we needed to include as well as the speed level.
