"A flower blossoms for its own joy." (Oscar Wilde)
Dear Wharton Families,
This week we have celebrated our favorite people--our staff. Each day our staff gives selflessly to ensure students are receiving the best possible education in a supportive environment. One of the most beautiful aspects of School District 104 is the feeling of connectedness and family, which permeates throughout each building. While staff are appreciated daily, this week allows for the world to join in and celebrate our caring staff.
I would like to take a moment to wish all females a Happy Mother's Day this weekend. Regardless, if the children in our lives or biological, we love and support them on their journey called life. Your sacrifices and guidance does not go unnoticed. Our world is a better place because of you. Enjoy your special day this weekend.
Gratefully,
Mrs. Sara Leone, Interim Principal
Teacher Appreciation Week
Thank you to our staff! Throughout the week, staff was celebrated by Student Council, students, families, the office, and Board of Education. We appreciate all your efforts.
Penny War Results
Wharton students participated in a Penny War to make a donation to Helping Hand during the last week in April, Disabilities Awareness Month. Students raised $1,000! Congratulations to our winning classrooms with the most positive points, Ms. Penrod and Mr. Murphy.
Celebrating Diversity
The first week in May is Children's Mental Health Awareness. Students receive regular social emotional learning support from our social worker. Additionally, this week each morning, as a building, students practiced mindfulness exercises from Calm Classroom to assist in preparing students for the day.
May is also identified as Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. Students will continue to learn and celebrate the contributions from the Asian community. To learn more about the history of why the month of May was chosen, read the article from NPR linked below.
Attendance and Dress Code
Students are expected to arrive on time daily for school. While from time to time situations arise, which cause tardiness, it is essential for students to be at school for our 7:50 start. Additionally, please only keep students home from school, if they are ill. Content is still being taught, and students need to be present to benefit from the full educational experience.
The SD 104 approved uniform policy is to be followed by all students. Recently, there have been more occurrences of students not complying with the uniform policy outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook. Please review to ensure students are following the uniform policy.
