RANDLE HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE
Dear Randle High School Families,
As we reach the fifth of the first 6 weeks, progress report grades have been made available to monitor through Skyward. We will also provide an electronic copy through email. It is important for parents to verify through Skyward all contact information is correct. Our main source of communication is through email and we want to ensure all families are receiving school information.
Teachers have been working to grade assignments and enter them to ensure the most accurate grade possible is reflected in Skyward. For progress report purposes, all teachers are required to have a minimum of three minor and one major grades. Grades may be lower than expected; however, there is time for students to raise grades. Students MUST apply themselves and attend tutorials. We have attached the tutorial schedule in our weekly newsletter. Attending tutorials is the first step in improving your child's grade. Please stress the importance of turning in all assignments. I have witnessed in the past that the work is usually completed and in their backpacks, they just forget to turn it. Nothing hurts your average like a ZERO.
Tuesday, September 12th is our Open House. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, hear class expectations, and get a better understanding of the course. We want all students to be successful and in order to do so we must work collaboratively with you to ensure our students are afforded every opportunity to be successful. We invite all parents to attend a parent meeting at 6:00PM in the auditorium. Class rotations will follow shortly afterwards.
At Open House we will have several tables with additional information. We hope you take the time to visit.
- Table #1 – Protectors of the Pride (P. O. P.) is an organization for our fathers. This organization will assist in the morning with drop off, monitoring the hallways, and helping at dismissal. Those who are interested should stop by this table, complete the registration sheet with your contact information and shirt size.
- Table #2 - “P.A.R.” Parents At Randle is our Parent Teacher Organization. We have had many parents share they are interested in being part of the PTO and we are now looking to add to our membership. Our goal is to have the largest PTO in the district!
- Table #3 - Boys Basketball will be selling clear bags that have the Randle Logo on the side. These are great bags to use when attending all LCISD activities. Clear bags are a requirement when attending LCISD activities. Let's show our LION PRIDE by supporting our Basketball program.
- Table #4 - Football Boosters will be selling fan Gear and stadium bags in two sizes for all parents and students as well as accepting new members.
- Table #5 - Student Homecoming Voting will be available.

OPEN HOUSE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2023
LION LOW DOWN
TRAYLOR STADIUM UPDATES
Randle Parents and Students,
Beginning this week, we are implementing seating adjustments at Traylor Stadium as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all our spectators, which is our priority.
For the remainder of the season, we will close off portions of the current student section and relocate students to an area adjacent to the band section. The new location will still offer an excellent view of the action on the field, and we are confident that our spirited students will continue to bring their enthusiasm and support to our teams.
These necessary changes will remain in effect for all upcoming football games due to foundation issues that have been identified in certain sections of the stadium.
We understand that change can sometimes be met with questions and concerns, and we want to assure you that we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. Our athletic staff will be on-site during the games to assist with the seating arrangements and answer any questions you may have.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
Tardy Policy. Listed are the consequences for excessive tardies at Randle High School:
- 0-4 No Penalty Warning
- 5th Offense: Lunch Detention
- 6th Offense: Lunch Detention
- 7th Offense: Saturday School
- 8th “+” Offense: ISS
Please stress the importance of being punctual. There is a strong correlation between excessive tardies and failing grades. We will begin running tardy reports every day to determine where students fall within our discipline matrix. Each six weeks tardies will start over.
I also would like to review our cell phone policy/expectations.
Students are allowed to bring their own telecommunication devices to school. This includes, but is not limited to cell phones, smart phones, iPads, earbuds, tablets and laptop computers. All devices must remain in student backpacks for the duration of the day. Students will be allowed to take out and use their devices at lunch only unless otherwise directed by administration. All electronic devices are REQUIRED to be put up immediately when entering the campus.
Failure to adhere to this expectation will result in the following discipline consequences.
- 1st Offense – Parent Contact, Phone confiscated and returned at end of day.
- 2nd Offense – Parent Contact, Phone confiscated, and parent must retrieve phone with a $15 fee.
- 3rd Offense – Parent Contact, Phone confiscated, parent must retrieve phone with a $15 fee, and student is assigned ISS.
- 4th Offense - Parent Contact, Phone confiscated, parent must retrieve phone with a $15 fee, and student is suspended.
- 5th Offense - Parent Contact, Phone confiscated, parent must retrieve phone with a $15 fee, and student is recommended to attend ALC.
- 6th Offense & Beyond – Recommend ALC Placement
Every students should also have a planner with them at all times. This is a way to track grades, homework, due dates, and is your child's hall pass.
- All students must have their planner hall pass signed by a teacher to be out of their scheduled class. Students without a pass will receive a discipline referral.
- If students need a replacement they may visit the registrar's office. They are $5.
Finally, I would like to discuss the importance of appropriate behavior during the school day and while attending school functions. The LCISD Student Code of Conduct has been revised. We want to be very clear about our 2023/24 expectations so there is no confusion with you or your child. You will find important information regarding the CHANGES to the student code of conduct handbook. It is important that you review these expectations with your student.

FLEX DAYS

Dear Parents,
I would like to take the time to introduce flex days. This is a way to allow our students the opportunity to get extra help and support from their teachers every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Below are examples of choices students can make. Ultimately it is their choice if they qualify for flex days.
EXAMPLES:
- Example #1 Flex Day students can attend clubs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Tuesday: Art Club, Wednesday: Anime Club, & Thursday: Book Club
- Example #2 Flex Day students can attend tutoring all three days: Tuesday: English IV with Abboud, Wednesday: Calculus with Hocking, & Thursday: AP US History with Self.
- Example #3 Flex Day students can stay in their normal Pride Plus advisory and go to their clubs on a designated day: Tuesday: Stay in original Pride Plus advisory, Wednesday: Stay in original Pride Plus Advisory, & Thursday: Spanish Club
You may be asking, "How does my child qualify for flex days?" There is only one requirement to participate, students must have successfully met all standards of STAAR EOC exams the previous year. If you did not, you are expected to participate in Accelerated Learning and complete the required 15 hours of instruction for each exam that the student was not successful. After they complete their 15 hours, they are allowed to participate.
HALL SWEEPS:
Hall sweeps will be conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during Flex days only.
- 8:25am Tardy Bell: All teachers should allow the appropriate students into the classroom.
- 8:27am All students who are late to school or found in the hallway will be escorted to the cafeteria. Students will be asked to SCAN a Tardy QR Code.
- Students will be required to input their ID, Name, Grade Level, and selected tardy.

CONSTITUTION DAY AND FREEDOM WEK
Constitution Day is Saturday, September 17. Since Constitution Day falls on a Sunday, the district will celebrate Freedom Week September 18-22 and Constitution Day on Monday, September 18th.

EXEMPTION POLICY - 2023
Dear Lamar CISD Parents/Guardians,
On September 5, the Lamar CISD Board of Trustees approved some important changes to our EIAA Local policy, which provides guidance regarding our final exam exemptions. These updates will go into effect on Monday, September 11, 2023.
Effective September 11, 2023, the following adjustments will be made to our final exam policy for 7th – 12th grade students:
- Absence Criteria for Exam Exemptions: To qualify for an exemption from final exams, a student shall have no more than three absences without a note from a medical professional or up to five absences with a note from a medical professional for at least two of those absences. This change reinforces the importance of regular attendance while allowing flexibility for genuine medical reasons.
- Attendance Review Committee (ARC): Parents and students may request the campus ARC (as specified in FEC Local) to review cases of students with more than five total absences. The committee will assess whether the student has valid reasons to be considered eligible for exam exemptions. Decisions made by the ARC are final and may not be appealed. We encourage students and parents to utilize this process if they believe their circumstances warrant a review.
- Absent on Exam Day: If a student fails to be present and sign in on the day of the exam, they will be marked absent and required to take the assessment at a later date, determined by the campus administration. Failure to take the assessment will result in a grade of zero for the final/semester exam.
- Important Note: Absences accrued prior to September 11, 2023, will NOT count against earning exemptions. However, any absences prior to September 11, 2023, may count against compulsory attendance requirements per board Policy FEA (Legal) and FEC (Legal).
These changes to our final exam policy reflect our commitment to maintaining a fair and equitable academic environment while emphasizing the importance of regular attendance and accountability. We believe that these adjustments will promote academic success and encourage responsible attendance habits among our students.

P.A.R. SPIRIT NIGHTS
CONGRESSIONAL YOUTH ACADEMY
The 22nd District of Texas is choosing 50 applicants to attend the Congressional Youth Academy in Sugarland, Texas on October 21, 2023. Students must register by September 23, 2023, and is open to 9-12th grade students. Students will hear from guest speakers from various levels of government and participate in a mock Congress.
PSAT/NMSQT 2023
All students enrolled in eighth through eleventh grades will be taking the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT NMSQT exam through College Board between October 18-31, 2023.
For our 9th and 10th grade students and because the district is considering this a practice test, the score will not count against your student, nor will the score go on their transcript. The test is changing formats this year and will only be offered online.
*With this change, students requiring testing accommodations must have them approved through College Board’s Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) prior to the College Board deadline of August 28, 2023. Families can submit requests directly to the College Board with the attached form.
*If you do not want your child to take this assessment, please contact our Campus Testing Coordinator, Ms. Vicki L. Dietlein, vicki.dietlein@lcisd.org to opt your child out of this test no later than Friday, September 22. Please contact your student’s counselor if you have any questions or concerns.

BEGINNING OF THE YEAR FORMS
As a reminder, Beginning of Year Forms are now available for all guardians to complete through the Skyward Family Access Center. If you are having any difficulties accessing skyward, please contact the school for assistance. All Beginning of Year Forms should be completed by September 15th.
The mandatory ONLINE Beginning of Year Forms went live on July 26th. Take 15 minutes this week while you still have a little time to breathe and get this done.

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Lamar CISD welcomes parents and guardians to be engaged and involved in student academics and activities. Mutually respectful behavior at school campuses and in interactions with campus staff is essential for fostering a positive and productive school environment. Establishing clear parent/guardian standards of conduct sets expectations and creates a respectful and supportive atmosphere for everyone involved.
- Safety and Security: Parents/guardians must comply with safety and security protocols on campus, including sign-in procedures and visitor badges.
- Adherence to School Policies: Parents/guardians must familiarize themselves with school policies and follow them, including rules related to student drop-off and pick-up, dress code, and behavior expectations.
- Respectful Communication: Parents/guardians must communicate with school staff in a respectful and courteous manner. This includes using appropriate language, listening to staff members’ perspectives, and refraining from disrespectful or aggressive behavior.
- Appropriate Use of Technology: Parents/guardians are expected to use technology, such as email or messaging apps, responsibly when communicating with school staff.
- Appropriate Time and Place: Parents/guardians are expected to understand the appropriate times and locations for discussions with teachers or school staff. There may be designated parent-teacher conferences or specific office hours when staff can address concerns.
- Privacy and Confidentiality: Parents/guardians must respect the privacy and confidentiality of other students and families. Discussions about individual students must be conducted privately and not shared with others.
- Conflict Resolution: Parents/guardians are expected to engage in constructive conflict resolution if they have concerns or disagreements with school staff. This includes seeking appropriate channels for dispute resolution and avoiding confrontations on campus.
- Feedback and Suggestions: Parents/guardians should feel welcome to provide feedback and suggestions to the school administration but should do so in a constructive and respectful manner.
Prohibited Behaviors
In order to provide a peaceful and safe school environment, Lamar CISD prohibits the following behaviors by parents/guardians and visitors:
- Abusive, threatening, profane or harassing communication, either in person, by e-mail or text/voicemail/phone or other written or verbal communication
- Disruptive behavior that interferes or threatens to interfere with campus operations, including the effective operation of a classroom, an employee’s office or duty station, a campus lobby, or school grounds, including sporting events, parking lots and car-pickup
- Threatening to do bodily harm to a District employee, visitor, fellow parent/guardian or student
- Threatening to damage the property of a District employee, visitor, fellow parent/guardian or student
- Damaging or destruction of school property
Consequences
Depending upon the severity of the incident, parents/guardians or visitors may be removed from or otherwise banned from campus and participation in school-sponsored events under the criminal trespass laws.
In situations involving lesser infractions or where remediation is viable, a warning will be provided in writing prior to the filing of trespass and issuance of a formal ban. Should a parent/guardian or visitor fail to heed the direction issued in the warning, a ban or other restrictions designed to deter the conduct will follow.
No restriction, however, will prevent the parent/guardian from working collaboratively with the campus or district to meet the child’s educational needs, nor will a parent/guardian be excluded from a child’s IEP meeting.
Specific procedures for campus warning and ban decisions can be found in policy GKA (LEGAL) and GKA (LOCAL), as well as the Lamar CISD Student Handbook.
