Counseling Connection
Two opportunities we offer students when they advance to the 6th grade are participating in Jobs for Dawgs and Student Council. Examples of the jobs that a student may hold include preschool helper, office assistant, morning announcements, library helper, and student ambassadors to name a few. These jobs teach the students the importance of responsibility as well as teamwork as they are often working in support of MES staff members. The students earn their "paycheck" in the form of a treat or other fun item at the end of each month for attending their job.
6th graders are also asked to vote on four classmates to be their Student Council Representatives. Student Council works closely with the School Counselors in a variety of ways, including planning and implementing activities for Red Ribbon Week, Kindness Week, PBIS rewards, as well as raising money through our candy cane drive before winter break. Last year, the Student Council decided to use the money they made to purchase donuts and juice for the entire school for the last Bulldog Family meeting, which was a big hit! We are pleased to announce our four representatives for the 2023-2024 school year are: Haley Dunlap, Rylan Johnson, Landon Schmelzle, and Lucy Zierlein. Congratulations!

Handbook Highlight
We will be looking to clean up some language in our handbook that pertains to the use of cell phones on school grounds. There has been some questions about when and where cell phones are allowed to be used. While cell phones can be a great tool for parents to ensure their child is safe, they can also create other issues that interfere with the orderly function of the school. That is why we have asked students not to be using cell phones while in line waiting for the bus to pick them up.
