A Weekly Newsletter from the Principal's Desk
Growing ALL students
To ensure that ALL students are growing, we need to be intentional about small groups and meeting with ALL students. Success block was designed for small group instruction and for helping to meet the needs of all students. Please make sure you are not overlooking your average to high kids and just assuming they are growing and thriving too.
NWEA results often get our attention of students who are not going to be proficient but we need to drill down into who did not meet their growth target and why. We will be holding growth celebrations near the end of the month, but we need to change what we are doing for those that are not making or not showing their growth.
One of the most challenging things and most rewarding things about teaching is that the kids are all different and they all need something different. It is our job to find the key to maximizing their learning.
I know we can take your success with the Bottom Quartile students and maintain work, while learning how to better push the upper quartiles. These are often students who are ritually compliant but we need to better engage them in the learning. We are sending a team to
Kagan strategies training this weekend in Dallas, and they will be coming back to share their learning in PD on the next two early release students.
I look forward to seeing our team grow in this area!

Peer Shout outs:
BOOSTERTHON
This year’s main fundraiser is the Southside Stingray Obstacle Challenge! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on January 7th. Families will then gather pledges for every obstacle your student completes (30-35 obstacles) at the Southside Stingray Obstacle Challenge, which will happen on Thursday, January 16th. This year our goal is to raise $10,000 for technology, musical instruments and athletic equipment, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK: WILD WEST! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward technology, musical instruments, and athletic equipment and the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on FUNRUN.COM. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Southside Stingray Obstacle Challenge. Thanks so much for your support!
Have a Stingtastic Week Stingrays!
