The Mustang Minute
Week of May 2nd
FROM THE PRINCIPALS' OFFICES
Greetings Mustang families!
What an amazing week it was for Teacher Appreciation! We were overwhelmed and overjoyed by all of the kind messages we received through chalk, emails, cards and letters...and by the many treats as well! From scones and doughnuts to tacos and nachos and snacks- we were well fed this past week. You certainly know the way to our hearts, Brookwood! Special thanks to our BFO who organized several ways to make our teachers and staff feel loved and appreciated this week! We are so blessed to be a part of this amazing community, where people take care of and celebrate each other. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for all of your support and generosity, and for making Brookwood a GREAT place to work!
Have a fantastic weekend, Mustangs!

Brookwood Bundles School Supplies 2022-2023
Greetings Brookwood Families!
We are excited to once again offer our school supply program, Brookwood Bundles. The teachers have thoughtfully prepared a school supply list for the 2022-2023 school year, and we are pleased to offer an opportunity to purchase these supplies right here from your school!
The grade level supplies will be gathered into convenient and easy-to-use bundles. They will include all of the supplies needed for the school year and will be ready and waiting for your child in their classroom on Open House Night in August. There is no need to brave the busy stores and worry if you’ll find all of the items on the list. Our team will take care of all the details so that you may enjoy your precious summer days!
The end of the school year is fast approaching and schedules are filling up quickly. Please take a moment out of your busy schedule to consider this opportunity. Each bundle purchased will help support our Families in Need school supply program. Thank you for your support!
Virtual School Info Night (Grades 6-8)
It's Showtime at BMS!
Attention 3rd Grade Families!
Mental Health Mondays
Our students and staff continue to discuss topics regarding Mental Health Awareness Month. On Friday, students and staff dressed the part by wearing green to show their support (pictured below).
Also, did you know that Monday is "Meaningful Monday" and that doing something nice for others can actually help your mental health? Research shows that showing gratitude can decrease stress, boost self esteem, and improve your overall mental health. During the week of May 9th, students will be given the opportunity to learn more about gratitude, talk about how it affects mental health, and engage in gratitude activities. What a great way to show your love for others while feeling great in the process!

Willy Wonka Fever!
We're getting even closer to our Willy Wonka play! Pictured below is just a snippet of all of the hard work that is going in to putting on what is sure to be a stellar production!
To get in the "Willy" spirit, our BMS teachers are handing out "Golden Tickets" for students exhibiting "Golden Character": going above and beyond to help another student, helping to keep the school clean, completing exceptional school work, and just Being Brookwood! Some teachers have taken this to an even higher level by strategically hiding tickets so that the do-gooder finds it while "on the job." Recipients of Golden Tickets will have their names put into a drawing for a sweet treat during our Willy Wonka Musical. How fun!
BES: BE BROOKWOOD
Students observed going above and beyond in being kind, being safe, and/or being responsible are issued “BE BROOKWOOD” tickets throughout their school week. Each week we randomly select students from this group and acknowledge them in our morning announcements and in the weekly MUSTANG MINUTE. Help us congratulate the students that were selected this week:
- KG- Broderick, Harmoni, Olli, Ryan, Lilah, Liam, Greyson, Addilyn, Darling
- 1st- Haven, Rhyker, Brodie, Theodore, Connor, Raie, Penelope, Emma, Nolan
- 2nd- Carson, Oenomaus, Chris, Crimson, Lily, Payton
- 3rd- Priya, Ethan, Colt, Charlie, Liam B., Koa
Congratulations to all of our BE BROOKWOOD ticket earners and keep up the great work, Mustangs!
From the Athletic Director's Desk
Congratulations to all of the Mustangs who won or placed in their events at the track meet on Wednesday! Our team had an excellent first meet.
The next meet is Wednesday, May 11th at 4pm. All track meets will be at Westosha Central High School.
Parents and fans planning to attend, please see the following from Westosha: With the start of heavy construction behind the school on the old football field, all parking will need to be located in either the west end lot or student lot (areas in green boxes). Handicap parking (blue box) will still be located in the regular location. There will not be any parking available behind tech ed, in the grass, or along the road. Any vehicle parked on the street will be ticketed for obstructing a fire lane.
If you have any questions, please contact Coach Guth or Coach Jagow.
Lastly, be sure to check out the summer sports camps offered in the month of June! There are a variety of options for all athletes and age groups - sign up now!
Go Mustangs!

From the Classroom...
What's Happening in Ms. Bullock's Class?
Plato once said, "I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the key to learning. One of the most important things we practice is rhythm. The students at Brookwood Elementary are rhythm rockstars, with most children performing above grade level. We have learned musical terms (most are in Italian!) and notation; they love "spicing it up" by adding other musical elements to their rhythms. We can even tell stories through rhythm - like making the "tika train" move by starting quiet and getting louder.
This spring, the Brookwood music students have been busy learning more about music and finding connections to the world around them. First and second grades had a unit about rhythm and Morse Code where they all got to key their name into a telegraph. Students have used technology to create songs. All of the students at Brookwood are working with the book "Wild Symphony", a collection of poems and music written by Dan Brown. They learn about rhyming, vocabulary, animals, instruments, and of course, music! So far, their favorites are The Ray (very calming), The Wondrous Whale, and Cheetah Chase (surprise jump moment). They can identify musical instruments and conduct with the music.
No matter the musical activity, students are making a connection which will help in core subjects, while having a lot of fun.
