Principal's Point - Newsletter Nov. 2023
Wow! Time sure flies by. My eight weeks of principalship are over already. It was a great learning experience, but I am glad to be heading back to my classes. My heart is with the children. I miss doing science experiments, listening to all their stories, and participating in hands-on math activities. As I reflect on this month, the phrase that keeps running through my mind is āteam spiritā. At Milo Community School we are blessed to have such a great staff and marvelous students. Speaking of spirit, the spirit of Christmas is in the air. Our next Spirit Day is Thursday, November 30, and itās pajama day! The elves, Holly and Jolly, will be reappearing in grades 1-3. There is a whole list of wonderful festivities coming up: caroling in Vulcan on December 18, Turkey Dinner on December 19, Author Visit of Betty Godkin on December 20, caroling around Milo on December 20 and a White Elephant Gift Exchange for the students and a visit from Santa on December 21.
This month we have had the privilege of having Bree Bos work with the grade 1-3 class. She has been doing lessons in all subject areas and has been working with the students. Katie Walker, Sara Woofenden, and Bree Bos have some surprises for our Christmas concert. Again this year we are fortunate to be working with Evergreen Theatre. Definitely mark down 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 14 on your calendars as that is our production night.
I want to say thank you to Milo Lions for their partnership with us in the Remembrance Day Service. A special thank you to Rev. Hartung and Grant Turner for being part of the service. Thank you volunteer readers for listening to our students read. Thank you Barb and Ian Godkin for bringing your wheat grinder to show the students how wheat is made into flour.
November was a busy month for professional development. I attended Palliserās Setting Goals Meeting. Miss Smith and Mrs. Bos went to the Literacy Symposium and Miss Smith did WIAT Training. Mrs. Woofenden and Mrs. Bos attended the Mathematics Symposium. Mrs. Woofenden also did SIVA training. Miss Schneider attended a library online webinar.
Lastly, we look forward to seeing you at Learning Conferences on Monday, December 4. Please use Edsby to book a time to meet with your childās teacher.

Remembrance Day Service
Our Remembrance Day Service was very well attended again this year. Mr. Turner and Ms. Kirk were excellent MC's. We are so proud of our students and staff for the work they put in to make this service a respectful tribute to all that served. Thank you to Rev. Dean Hartung for his contributions to our service and to the Milo Lions Club for supplying the donuts and to all who attended.
The kindergarten class recited the poem "Little Poppy" while holding the poppies they made.
