Engagement Through Collaborative Study Groups
As teachers we know there are students who are struggling in class with a certain topic or possibly multiple topics. How about putting them into groups of other struggling students with a peer who feels confident to teach? With collaborative study groups, led by a peer tutor, these will benefit any class, especially those block days, for students to listen to each other and gain the understanding on their confusions. Students will work together, and facilitate their learning to accomplish the goal set out by the end of the class period. Reflection piece is not only good for them but for the teacher as well to see what they need to fix. This builds leadership, organization and communication skills. With the school years we've had, due to online learning, these skills are needed more than ever. (Much like an AVID Tutorial).
