Creston Intermediate and Middle School Family Newsletter
Week of September 29, 2019
Dear Creston Families,
We look forward to seeing you on October 1st for our annual Conference Day! Remember - there is NO SCHOOL on October 1st, but we do ask that students attend their 15-minute conference with their parent or guardian!
This past week was a busy one for CIMS as we celebrated College Go! Week and Pink Week! Each day, students heard college trivia questions on morning announcements and in the Cafeteria - winners received new Creston and/or college gear and other fun prizes! In addition, we had a large convocation on Thursday afternoon to honor those who are fighting cancer with our PINK OUT staff vs. student volleyball game! Each CORE Connect class period created an informational poster to demonstrate understanding of a major disease and bring attention to the fight for cures and treatment! The winning poster from each grade level will receive a prize during CORE Connect!
While the week was full of various events, it was also a great chance to engage with our students in events that help build a positive community at CIMS!

From Dr. Hanson, MSD Warren Superintendent
Please read below from Warren Superintendent, Dr. Tim Hanson:
This fall, MSD of Warren Township will be creating a comprehensive strategic plan based on community input that will ensure all students and staff have the conditions necessary to develop and apply Journey of a Graduate (JoG) skills and dispositions. The Journey of a Graduate skills are a set of 6 skills and dispositions that have been identified by our community needed for success in and out of school. The JoG skills are Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Communication, Collaboration, Content Knowledge, and Resilience. These JoG skills will serve as the foundation of the district strategic plan.
One way the district will capture community input is through an online survey. Linked below is a short survey that will ask questions around our strengths as a district and help us identify areas for improvement.
Town Hall Meetings will also be scheduled for our teachers, students, parents and community to collaborate in person. Elementary school Town Hall Meetings will be hosted by their feeder intermediate and middle school. Those meeting dates are below:
Tuesday, October 22nd, 6:00 - 7:30 at Creston Intermediate and Middle School (GC, LA, EA)
Monday, October 28th, 6:00 - 7:30 at Creston Intermediate and Middle School
Thank you in advance for your participation and thank you for your continued support of MSD Warren Township Schools.
Main Office Safety & Security Updates
- Any parent/guardian who needs to pick up a student or visit a classroom MUST have a valid photo ID in order for your child to be released to you. Please be prepared with this when you enter the building to sign out your child, as our receptionist will ask for it each time.
- Should you need to notify your child of a change in their PM transportation (for example: telling them to be a bus rider, rather than a car rider) please try to notify the office prior to 3:30 p.m. in order to allow enough time for the message to reach your student.
- We will no longer allow students to wait in the main office for a parent who calls in advance to say they are a few minutes away from campus; this presents a security risk for our students. If you need to pick up your child early from school, please budget enough time to come in, sign them out, and for our office staff to get them out of class.

The student and parent portal has been upgraded to Tyler SIS Student 360. This new portal offers parents, students and district staff online access to student information via the Web on PCs or tablets or on a smartphone application — providing comprehensive functionality with a touch-friendly, intuitive interface.

Warren Central Athletic Events
MSD Warren Township strives to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all students while in school and at after-school events, especially our Warren Central athletic events. We ask for your support in helping us achieve this by ensuring that your intermediate and middle school student is accompanied by an adult or older Warren Central sibling, who has a WCHS student ID.
Also, for your convenience, we are including a reminder about approved items that may/may not be brought into athletic events at Warren Central High School.
SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLICATIONS/NEWS MEDIA USE
The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/ social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/ political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
Herbicide Application
From our Buildings and Grounds Crew:
Beginning on Monday, September 30th and continuing through Sunday, October 20th, our Grounds Department will spray Prodiamine &/or Glyphosate (pre emergent herbicides) &/or T-Zone (a broadleaf herbicide) at all township buildings.
