From the Principal's Desk
August 13, 2022
Greetings FWAFA Family,
Welcome Back! The faculty and staff here at FWAFA are so excited to see all of our Fabulous FWAFAn students on Monday, August 15, for what promises to be a great school year - the best one yet!
I have lots of information in this newsletter about getting started at school. I will also have a Coffee with the Principal on Facebook Live this afternoon (Saturday, August 13) at 2:00 p.m.
See you Monday!
Creatively yours,
Dr. Jackson
Traffic Moves From North to South
Morning Arrival
Please drop off at either the VENDING MACHINE DOOR in the back or the LOBBY DOOR in the front between 7:20 a.m. and 7:59 a.m. We are no longer using the elementary south door as a morning entrance. If it is past 8:00 a.m., only use the front lobby doors. Students will be given a tardy pass at the main office. After 3 morning tardies in one six weeks, students will receive a Silent Lunch Detention. Please be on time. I cannot stress this enough.
Do not drop your student off in the front parking lot and have them walk across traffic. At morning arrival, be ready to hop out of the car with all of your school items quickly to keep the line moving.
From 7:20 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., grades 3-5 will report to the cafeteria and grades 6-12 will report to the auditorium. At 7:45 a.m., students are released to get items from their lockers and then report to either their class or assembly.
Afternoon Dismissal
Students in grades 3-5 will dismiss from the SOUTH ELEMENTARY DOOR.
Students in grades 6-8 will dismiss through the VENDING MACHINE DOOR.
Students in grades 9-12 will dismiss through the FRONT LOBBY DOOR.
At afternoon dismissal, be ready to hop in the car and go. It is imperative that we keep traffic moving safely and do not back up traffic and cars on Hulen street. As you exit the school, DO NOT MAKE A LEFT ON HULEN. If you need go south on Hulen, turn left as you exit the parking lot on Briarwood and go through the neighborhood.
Please pick your student up at 3:45 p.m. when school dismisses. If you are going to be late, please notify the main office at 817-924-1482.
New Cellphone Policy & Bring Your Own Laptop/Chromebook Grades 7-12
As students arrive to class, they will put their cellphone in the cellphone holder until the end of class or they may use it with teacher permission.
Grades 3-6 will keep their phones in their backpacks or lockers during the school day including lunch. We encourage conversation and socialization!
Grades 7-12 may use their phone during lunch and passing periods.
If your student has special circumstances, please contact our Special Programs Coordinator, Heather Chandler at heather.chandler@fwafa.org.
This year each of our elementary academic classes have their own Chromebook cart so students are 1 to 1 Chromebook campus in our elementary grades by class.
We are a bring your own laptop/Chromebook school in grades 7-12. However, if you are unable to purchase a Chromebook or laptop for your student, we have a limited number of Chromebooks that we can check out to students who are in need.
Our social studies teachers will facilitate the distribution of Chromebooks to students who need one.
It is in our strategic plan to have enough laptops by 2023-2024 for grades 7-12 to be a 1 to 1 campus. Thank you for your patience as we have worked on this initiative for the past 3 years. A big thank you to our AMAZING PTSO who got the ball rolling on our Chromebook initiative 3 years ago with a $5,000 donation.
Fresh Start: Dress Code Compliance!
We have a passion for UNIFORM FASHION!
An important part of our history, tradition and core school values is for students to adhere to our dress code. It creates a sense of unity and teaches students the discipline needed to reach their full potential as an artist and 21st century learner.
That means students must wear a red or navy FWAFA logoed shirt, blue or white oxford shirt (long or short sleeve), khaki bottoms (skirt, pants, shorts), or plaid skirt or jumper, and closed toed shoes.
The great thing about our dress code is that there are several mix and match options where students can show off their unique style from day to day.
Students who are out of dress code will receive a Silent Lunch Detention. After two dress code infractions, students will be assigned to Saturday School. There's no excuse for not being in dress code.
You can get these items from any store that sells uniforms like Wal-Mart, Target, Old Navy, and Academy.
Outerwear must be logoed. Let me repeat - OUTERWEAR MUST BE LOGOED! Luckily, it's too hot for outerwear right now. Be sure to order your spirit shirt online on our website. Wearing college sweatshirts is suspended at this time. If you do wear a FWAFA sweatshirt, you must wear a red or blue logoed uniform shirt underneath.
For more details on our school dress code, please see our Handbook on the website under Resources.

Please remember that lockers are optional for grades 7-12. If you do not plan to use your locker on a daily basis, please do not sign up for a locker.
New Cafeteria Accounts - My School Bucks
We are in the middle of a vendor change for cafeteria meal purchase. While we had hoped to have it finalized by the start of school, it is not ready.
What does that mean for you and your child?
First, your child will certainly receive a meal.
For the first few weeks of school, if your child goes through the meal line, we will record that meal manually. When the transition to the new system is complete, we will put those meals into the new system to be paid for at a later date.
Any extra items beyond the meal will need to be paid for with cash.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this transition.
If you have any questions, please call our Foodservice Department at 817-924-1482 or email cheryl.demeyere@fwafa.org and we will be glad to assist you.
