Our picture retake day is set for Monday, November 20th. If your child missed our original picture day, they will get their photo taken on Monday. If your child has already gotten their picture taken and you would like retakes, please return the original photos.

Dear East Fallowfield Families,

We are thankful for you! As we prepare to take time off from school, November 22-24 for the Thanksgiving break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security.

We appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra time off during the Thanksgiving break. If your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. However, we also know that when students miss too much school — regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent.

A student is chronically absent from school when he or she has missed 10 percent of the school year. That is just 18 days per year, or 2 to 3 days a month. The absences can add up quickly! The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania law and school policy require that every child of compulsory school age attend school daily.

May these days off be restful and healing.

On Wednesday, November 8th, The Red Cross visited our first and third grade classrooms. In first grade engaged in the Prepare with Pedro lesson which introduces the concept of emergency preparedness. Using storytelling, the children learned about Pedro, an adorable bird who does not know how to handle emergency situations. With his friend Mia, they learn about home fire preparation, handling other weather condition emergencies, and learning how to stay calm in these unfortunate situations.

In third grade, students participated in the Pillowcase Project. The program was originally created in New Orleans, inspired by university students who carried their belongings in pillowcases during evacuations for Hurricane Katrina. The program features interactive lessons focused on home fire prevention and safety and other potential hazards such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. Students received a pillowcase to decorate and use as a personal emergency supplies kit. Children are also encouraged to work with adult members of their households to create an emergency plan and supplies kit.

We are thankful for this partnership with the Red Cross. Here are just a few photos of the presentations.

East Fallowfield wants to extend a thank you to the Rotary Club of Coatesville for their annual donation of dictionaries to our 3rd grade students. The dictionaries also included a sign language alphabet chart that the students were super excited about!

My name is Mrs. Joann Billman, I am the STEM teacher and will be the Science Fair Coordinator for East Fallowfield. I am here with a special announcement! The 2023-2024 Science Fair is getting ready to begin! It is exciting to watch our students learn and grow as they present a project of their own design! East Fallowfield will hold the Science Fair on January 10, 2024!

All students (3-5 grades) are invited to complete an independent/at-home science fair project to be entered in the EF Elementary Science Fair. Students can work by themselves or in a team of up to three students from the same grade level. Each student or group will make a tri-fold poster showing their project.

For students in K-2 who are not ready to complete a full science fair investigation, we are offering a new Learning Fair! Here you can research anything science related and make a board on your findings. Please note, these will not be judged, but on display the night of the EF Science Fair!

Chromebooks

• Please be sure to send your child back to school with their district-issued Chromebook and charger if they took it home for the summer.
• If your child turned in their Chromebook at the end of the year, they will be distributed within the first few days of school.
• If your child is in kindergarten or new to the district, laptops will be distributed within the first weeks of school.
• Technology Insurance Fees (TIF) can be made via RevTrak on the school district’s website: https://coatesvillearea.revtrak.net/casd-technology/.
• Should you have any technology concerns please contact our Technology Department at ithelpdesk@casdschools.org.

The district is continuing our contract with A Child’s Place as our before and after care provider. Please see the attached flyer below for information about rates and how to enroll your child. We are happy to announce that we will have both before and after care at East Fallowfield this year!
