Kindness Day

Every Wednesday in January, we are encouraging everyone to wear a kindness shirt or button to spread Kindness at our school! Let's all work together to Bee Kind!

School Sign-out Procedures


If you need to sign-out a student during the school day, please be aware of the following procedures that keep your student safe at school:


IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED WHEN SIGNING OUT A STUDENT.

Any students being picked up early must be signed out by a relative / adult that is listed in Infinite Campus. Parent's can list adults allowed to pick-up their student in the Parent Portal. If an unlisted adult needs to pick up a student, the listed Guardian MUST call the school office at 614-365-5923.


STUDENTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED BETWEEN 3:00 - 3:30 PM.

If your student has a doctor’s appointment after 3:00 or you just want to pick them up early, please sign them out BEFORE 3:00pm. This will prevent the interruption of the teaching process. Students are dismissed at 3:30, but teaching continues up until that time. We appreciate your concern for your students continued and uninterrupted education. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

If your student is absent...

If your student is absent, you can email the school to notify us. You can attach and send doctor's notes as well. This will keep your student's attendance as accurate and current as possible. The email is attendance.burroughs@columbus.k12.oh.us

Please Check Your Child's New Bus Route!

As part of CCS' Transportation Reliability Improvement Measures, the District is undertaking an unprecedented mid-year action to update ALL bus routes across the city, effective January 4. You can log on to the Parent Portal and see your child's new bus route information

School Choice - 23/24 School Year

CCS has multiple school choices for students in our district for the next school year.


Middle School

If your student is moving on to middle school, they will automatically be enrolled in the Middle School assigned to their address or based on their special education needs. Most students at Burroughs will be assigned to Hilltonia. You do not need to do anything for your student to be enrolled at the assigned Middle School. If you would like, you can submit an application to lottery in to another middle school. Applications for Middle School lottery are accepted via the Parent Portal Wednesday, January 4, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023.


Virtual Middle School Choice Fair: January 10, 2023 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. https://www.ccsoh.us/schoolchoice


If you have more questions about how to submit a lottery application or need to use a computer to do so, please join us for the Middle School Lottery Meeting during parent/teacher conferences on January 17 at 6pm in the cafeteria. District reps will be there to help with Parent Portal.

Elementary Schools

Applications for Elementary school lottery are accepted via the Parent Portal Wednesday, February 1, 2023 through Friday, March 31, 2023. The Virtual Elementary School Fair is on February 7, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

When winter weather forces classes to be cancelled, you need to know right away.

Decisions about school closings or delays will happen by 5:30 AM the day of school. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date in the parent portal. More information about weather-related school closings can be found here: https://www.ccsoh.us/domain/4356

Lifewise Academy

School partner, Faith Community Church is offering a Bible class for Burroughs Students on Fridays during the school day. Students would be walked across the street to Faith Community's church building for the class and walked back to the school. Classes are taught by screened teachers and are completely free. MLK Day March & Program

Please join other Columbus residents to celebrate and honor the legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual City of Columbus MLK Day March and Program. Be inspired by Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and central Ohio’s Luke Fedlam and recording artist Nia Allen plus more dynamic speakers. The event is free and open to the public.

John Burroughs is a Title I School
