CHARGER CHRONICLES
June 28, 2022

On October 26, Ms. Madeline Clements, aide to Mrs. Andrew’s Kindergarten class, spoke with Mrs. Sanchez, school counselor, and me to announce her resignation from St. Margaret Mary School. After a brief discussion, I accepted her resignation. We are currently searching for a full-time replacement.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach me at ccollins@saintmmschool.org (preferred) or 504-884-2285.
If you are someone you know may be interested in the position, please send resume to the email address above.
Sincerely,
Christopher Collins, M.Ed.
Principal
CUT THE CARLINE
One of the big live auction items at the SMM Spring Soiree each year is a "Cut the Car Line" privilege. It is one of the MOST POPULAR ITEMS auctioned off. The highest bidders receive the privilege of cutting the afternoon carline for the entire school year. This past year, we had two families pay an equally large sum of money to do this. So, if you see a car entering the campus from Robert Blvd. and cutting the car line, please do not salute them or call them an ugly name. They have paid for this privilege. If you would like the privilege, please come to the Spring Soiree and bid on it. Thank you for your understanding.

NWEA MAP Formative Assessments 2022-23 - Parent Meeting November 10
We have begun to participate in NWEA Map Formative Assessments here at St. Margaret Mary and across the archdiocese. Students in grades Kindergarten through Seventh took an initial assessment in September and there will be subsequent assessments at the middle of the school year (January 30-February 17) and again at the end (May 3-19). MAP Growth scores provide data regarding students’ performances by measuring both Achievement and Growth. Achievement results indicate how well your child has learned skills in a subject compared to similar students nationwide and Growth results are a measure of your child’s personal progress and growth over time.
Results of SMM Fall Summative Assessments are very encouraging. Reports of results are both comprehensive and extensive and teachers are in the process of reviewing class and individual student profiles. Teachers will use these results to tailor instruction to meet the needs of their students. These reports will help to pinpoint areas of learning which require additional attention and ones that have been mastered, both individually and at various grade levels, in order to determine the best course of action to pursue.
The report of your child’s individual results, “Fall 2022 Family Report” is being sent home this week. For more information about MAP Growth, visit the MAP family toolkit at NWEA.org/family toolkit. The family toolkit includes helpful videos and resources just for parents.
Please plan to attend a parent meeting on Thursday, November 10th, from 6-7 p.m. in the SMM cafeteria. --Mrs. Denise Sanchez, M. Ed., School Counselor

Our SMM school families donate food items assigned by homerooms. The Mission Club will collect items from homerooms and the High School Youth Group will sort the items and place in boxes. Donations from SMM provide a box of several meals for 25 families in our community. We will collect donations from November 7 - 18.

I GET A KICK OUT OF PLAYING SOCCER
Coach Matt would like to know if any students in 4th through 7th grade have an interest in having a school soccer team. It will be a coed team. We do not have enough students to have separate boys and girls teams. We had a coed team for the last few years before COVID paused soccer. We were extremely successful on the field - won most of our games.
Please complete this form if your child is interested in playing school soccer: https://forms.gle/nGPbZf9c9wPHQm2r6
There will be a limited number of games since most schools do not have a coed team. AND WE NEED COACHES! If you are interested in coaching or assisting with coaching, please contact Coach Matt at marnold@saintmmschool.org. You'll get a kick out of it.
