Eagle Scholars Soaring to New Heights
It's hard to believe that it's already November 11th and we are hosting parents during our Parent Teacher Conference Day. Also, today we honor our Veterans. Veterans Day honors all of those who have served our country in war or peace — those who have passed or ones still alive and fighting for our freedoms — although it's largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices. It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I. Let's have a discussion with our scholars regarding Veteran's Day and why we commemorate our Veterans each year.
Administrative Updates
- Conference Day is Today! - Remember to focus on the EVIDENCE (data) when sharing strengths and challenge for students. Begin with the POSITIVE and have a "take-away" for parents in order to support their scholars at home. Primary Teachers - it would be a good idea to share on/above grade level sample texts and/or running record information.
- PROJECTOR: Please don’t forget to shut down your projector each day after use.
- Behavior/Managing Student Behavior: Teachers are encouraged to utilize a student management incentive (Class Dojo, Bloomz, Team Points etc.) When students are rewarded for positive behavior teachers are able to utilize instructional time wisely. Obama bucks should be distributed based on those dojo points or team points DAILY. If students have nothing to work toward or are not rewarded for positive behavior, inappropriate behaviors increase. If you need support with ways to manage student behavior please see Mrs. Walker or Dr. Ashworth. Level 2 or 3 offenses should be documented on a PS-74. Reach out to families when necessary - for both positive and negative behaviors. Schedule parent conferences for those students who are in need.
- SAFE SCHOOLS VIDEOS: Please don’t forget to stay current with your safe schools videos and assignments. E-mails will be coming out
- Communicating with Families: How are you communicating with families? Are you utilizing Dojo or Bloomz? Remind? How do families know what you are learning in the classroom? Do students have an opportunity to develop materials that show what they are learning?
- Technology: Are you utilizing technology in the classroom? Do you know how to utilize your Smartboard? not just as a visualizer but are you using all of it’s features?
- Professional Responsibilities: KUDOS to all of our Eagle Educators who are ON TIME each day! (Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities) When you are late, a teammate must monitor your students and this is not fair to the staff members who are consistently on time. Also, children unsupervised in the hallway are a safety concern. In addition, if a staff member does not arrive on time to their classroom or a substitute teacher does not show up to your teammates classroom, please notify the office.
Ashworth and Walker attend ASCD Conference on Educational Leadership
Staff members enjoy growing and developing professionally! Mrs. Walker and I rarely have opportunities to learn and grow as leaders. We had an opportunity to attend the ASCD's conference titled Resilient Schools in Action last Friday. We look forward to sharing our new learning with the staff. See highlights below
It's not about you
A percentage of our students are dealing with problems out of their control. Your children aren't giving you a hard time..... your children are having a hard time. What are we doing in our classrooms to support them?
Fostering Resilient Learners
How do we communicate with children when they are being disruptive or "shut down"? Your response could either make things better or worse......Are your classrooms safe spaces?
