A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
DCPS does not have school on Monday, January 16, 2023, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The 5th grade students did an amazing job delivering President Barack Obama’s President-Elect Speech, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. I am so proud of them.
If you have not already done so, please RSVP for the Student Success Showcase. It will take place on January 24, 2023, at 5:00pm, in honor of our DC Public Education Fund, Standing Ovation Award. We will come together as a school community to celebrate. Additional information can be found under "New and Updates".
For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com for DCPS updates and resources.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal

Small Business Saturday!- January 7, 2023
We know many parents in our school community have a small business. As a way to help support those businesses, we are piloting a Small Business Saturday campaign. On the first Saturday of the month, starting January 7, we welcome parents in our community to post an announcement about their (family-friendly) small businesses. Just open Konstella, click “school” on the bottom left, then the plus sign on the top right and select “Announcement”. After three months we will send out a community survey to assess how it’s going and make any necessary changes.
As we look to the spring semester, this is one of the ways we're trying to help build community among families at Hyde. We encourage everyone to join the monthly PTA general body meetings as a great way to get more involved in strengthening our school community. If you have other ideas please don't hesitate to reach out to the PTA Board via Konstella or pta.hydeaddison@gmail.com. As a reminder, there are no dues or requirements to "join" the PTA; all are welcome!

Free Camp for Children Experiencing Grief
What is Experience Camps for Grieving Children?
Experience Camps, founded in 2009, is a national, no-cost program for grieving children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. Our free one-week, overnight summer camps combine the best elements of summer camp with a clinically-informed peer support model that normalizes grief, builds coping skills and resiliency, and allows kids to connect with other kids who “get it”.
