Welcome to the Woodland Park School District e-Newsletter, which is sent out weekly when school is in session. It serves as a glimpse of some of the wonderful things going on in our schools, as well as a point of reference for upcoming events.

School 1 students participated in a Turkey Challenge this month. Some did the project as a class and others completed it at home with their families. The students added a feather each day leading up to Thanksgiving. The children really enjoyed showing their teachers what they are thankful for. Here are some examples from Mrs. Murray's, Ms. Krasnomowitz's, Mrs. Khalil's, Ms. Wittig's and Ms. Gilhooley's classes.

Ms. Tonti's first grade class at Charles Olbon School worked on disguising turkeys in a fun and creative way so they're not caught by the farmer and gobbled up for Thanksgiving. The story that the class read is called Turkey Trouble.

Thank you to our friends at Little Falls ShopRite, especially Rich Greco, who donated 25 $35 gift cards instead of turkeys this year to Woodland Park families in need. These gift cards, in addition to those graciously donated from families in our schools, will ensure those who need a helping hand have a happy Thanksgiving. Our School nurses distributed the gift cards to 30 local families. While the traditional collection of food items was not able to happen due to COVID-19, our community's spirit of giving continued, as over $2,000 was collected for this effort. The School District also plans charitable collections in December at the schools.

Ms. Capo's third grade students at Beatrice Gilmore School have been working very hard virtually learning.

District adopts K-5 READY Math Program

This school year, our school district has adopted a new math series, READY Classroom, for all students in grades K-8. The READY Program is designed to create an individualized learning path for each student. This path will address specific needs for each child and target areas of strengths and weaknesses.

The individualized learning routines require the students to complete various tasks, such as comprehension checks, personalized instruction, learning games, and unit assessments. Students are expected to complete all components of the program in order to achieve growth.
