Stillwater Elementary School
January 16th-January 20th
A Note from the Principal
Greetings,
Happy New Year! January is always a busy month here at our school. We have kicked off One School, One Book and there are already many projects being brought in. It is wonderful when we can all talk about the same book we are reading! In addition, our Kindness Club has organized a Pet Supply Drive for our local animal shelter. Thank you to everyone who has donated!
Academically, the students are taking their Winter NWEA benchmark assessments. This shows us areas of growth as well as areas that students may be having difficulty with. All grade levels have started Module 2 of the Wit &Wisdom curriculum. Mid-Winter Assessments with Fundations will be happening as well. It is amazing to me to be in classrooms and see the growth our students are making.
Finally, our UPK Registration will be held on February 22nd in the Elementary School from 8:30-1:30. We are excited to share that we will be transitioning to a full day program, running 9:00-2:00. Kindergarten Registration opens up on our website this Saturday, January 14th. If you have a child who will be five on or before December 1, 2023, they are eligible to begin kindergarten with us.
Thank you for all you do to support our school community!
Respectfully,
Rebecca Toleman

TCT Federal Credit Union's Teacher of the Week
Mrs. Murray is the most fun-loving teacher who happens to care about her students deeply. She goes from spending extra time with each student when they need help, to buying snow boots for a student so they may go on the playground at recess. Her support goes beyond her classroom.

The Cold Weather
The cold weather is upon us. We take the children out following the weather guidance from NYS. Please make sure they have a jacket to wear out at recess as it has been cold. If your child is in need of a winter jacket, please let me know. Thank you for your support with this matter.

NYS Testing
Students in grades 3-5 will be taking NYS Assessments in both ELA and Math again this year. This year is the first year students are assessed on the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards. The ELA assessment runs April 19th-April 21st and is taken on the computer. The Math assessment runs May 2nd-May 4th and students will take that on paper.
On January 24, 2023, students will participate in a simulation for Computer Based Testing. It is intended to test our bandwidth and is an opportunity for students to see what the test format will look like.
If you have any questions on the assessments, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or myself. You can also visit the NYSED website: http://www.nysed.gov/state-assessment/elementary-and-intermediate-level-tests
