New Quarter Begins!
We have made it through nine weeks! I am proud of the first quarter we have had at BCMS and our discipline data is ExExExCiting! We will finish out quarter one tomorrow and send home progress reports on Thursday. Please remember, progress reports look different this year and we are using a rolling grade book. There are two main purposes of grades. The first is to give scholars feedback which allow teachers to craft their instruction to the needs of the scholars. The second is communication. Please continue to use PowerSchool to check the progress of your child. If you have any questions regarding grades, please contact your child's teacher(s).
Also, we will begin our new rotation of connections classes on Tuesday! We are really excited to get Q2 off and running.
This is going to be a very busy week at BCMS! It is Homecoming! We will be honoring a Middle School Homecoming Court on Wednesday at the football game. We have a game, a dance, and a week full of spirit week dress up days! Monday is my favorite day of the week, so what better way to kick off Monday then to DRESS FOR SUCCESS! I hope to see lots of Redskin scholars with SUPER school spirit!
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! We are about to get into the busy time of fall with school pictures, games, dances, and activities at school! You definitely want to be in the know at #BeBCMS!

Georgia Milestone Fall Field Test
This fall, our 7th grade scholars will be participating in a Field Test for the Georgia Milestones Test. The testing will take around 2 periods of 2 days and will be given the week of October 23rd. This test will not be scored. BCMS will not get any data on scholars after this test, it is solely a test run for the Georgia DOE. We are excited about the opportunity to practice our test taking skills on standardized assessments. If you have questions, please call the school.

Map Testing- Reports and Goals
Our scholars take the MAP test three times a year: Fall/Winter/Spring. We are using our Fall Reading RIT scores to watch our progress in reading. Literacy is a school wide focus for us this year and we are committed to grow readers!
MAP testing is a great way for our scholars to show how much they have grown and an awesome way for us as teachers to use this data in our planning and lesson designs. MAP tests are designed to measure growth over time, so that makes them very different than our "state tests" known as Georgia Milestones. MAP tests give you tons of great information in regards to achievement at this moment. Here is a great article to read that will give you more information in regards to MAP testing.

Notes from Ms. Raeburn
We have wrapped an entire quarter. I just told the staff this week I feel like I blinked and it went from July 1st to middle of October! Time does fly when you are having fun! And speaking of fun, we are having fun at BCMS! I am exceptionally proud of our outstanding improvements we have made in discipline and am anxious to see that pour into our academic achievement. I am proud to say I am in classrooms all the time and I am seeing amazing work by our scholars and our teachers! We are very focused on making sure our scholars are engaged in what they are leaning! Middle Level Learners are a special learner and it is important that we make learning FUN and make school a place they want to be!
We hope to see you at our Homecoming Football game on Wednesday and we definitely hope we have a great turnout for the dance! The cost is $5.00 and we will also have a concession stand. The dance is in the high school gym this time! :)
Please take some time to read our School and Parent Compact form. We sent them home last week and need the signed copy returned. If you need another copy, please call us and we can send one home. You can also read the compact here:
