The Largo Principal's Parent Press is a bi-weekly communication newsletter that will be used to keep parents in the know about events, happenings, and updates at Largo High School straight from Principal Lewis' desk.

On Thursday, November 2, PGCPS will exhibit its programs for Pre-K through 12 Specialty Programs where families and the community can explore the many programs available to students. This year’s showcase will be held at Charles Herbert Flowers High School from 6 to 8 p.m. Largo's speciality programs will be represented at this event.

Schedule for Friday, November 3- (3-Hour Early Release - Asynchronous)

Learning plans will be given to students for only the first three periods of their school schedule. Assignments should be provided to students by the start of the school day, Friday, November 3, 2023, which would be 7:45 a.m. Students will conclude their learning day by 11:25 a.m. Please see the information and graphic below for more details.

Each teacher for periods 1-3 will communicate with students and families for how they will capture attendance that day.

All grades for the 1st quarter must be finalized by teachers on Friday November 3 at 11:59 p.m. Grades will be made available via SchoolMax for parent review. Please connect with Mrs. Mintz (nicole.mintz@pgcps.org) for assistance is getting access to SchoolMax if you do not have it already.

Parents of students in the class of 2024 -- Get ready to celebrate your child and help them to bring in an official capacity the start of their senior campaign with our inaugural "Senior Inauguration." This event will take place on Wednesday, November 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Seniors are asked to arrive 30 minutes before the event to line up. The event will feature a prominent alumni who will bring words of encouragement to our senior class. This is an event that senior and their parents do not want to miss. Admission is free. Please park in the back of the building by the gym. See you there!

Mr. Lewis met with Captain Ruff of the PGCPS Security Team. Largo High School will be a part of the 2A Weapons Detection Equipment rollout. We anticipate that being within the next two weeks. Upon receiving the equipment, a white paper and other resources will be shared with parents to equip them with knowledge about our rollout. Also, we plan to meet with all students by grade level next week to walk them through the changes that are taking place. Stay tuned!

Largo High School Advisory is implementing the use of "Advisory Periods" to provide support for students, with a specific focus on social and emotional learning and wellness. The periods will be implemented bi-weekly on Wednesdays. We want to thank our Advisory Task Force for their support in providing lessons for teachers to implement, which will cover a range of social and emotional learning topics.

Fall Sports Updates:

• Our Boys Varsity Football Team finished the regular season with a 5-3 record, and have qualified for the playoffs. Friday, November 3, they will host Lackey High School at 6:30 p.m. We want to have a great showing for our team, in their quest for a championship. Come out and support our team!

• Also, we want to congratulate our Boys Soccer Team, who advanced to the second round of the playoffs. They were eliminated in the second round, but have shown tremendous improvement from last year. We are very proud of them.

• In other news, the Volleyball Team will also compete in the playoffs, and they compete on Monday, November 6 where they will travel to Friendly High School at 5 p.m.

We are proud of all of the efforts of each of our Fall Sports players and teams!

Winter Sports Updates:

The Winter sports season begins November 15. Students who are interested in playing or who will play, should have a current physical on file.

Is your student interested in being an author? If so, the Write-A-Book competition is for them. This competition is sponsored by the Office of Library Media Services and directly supports the current Framework, MSDE, and AASL standards. This competition affords students an opportunity to write to inform, to persuade, and to express personal ideas. The collaboration between the Library Media Specialist and classroom teachers provides a climate that is conducive to student learning and achievement. Parent involvement completes the partnership between home and school and contributes to the overall success of the students’ creative literary experience. Judges will award prizes at the school and county level for each entry for 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and honorable mention. If your student is interested in participating in the competition this year, please contact Mrs. Biscette (email: jessie.simmons@pgcps.org) for more information on the guidelines and entry categories.
