February 15, 2024

Cardinal Pride
Good afternoon, UDHS Family,
The National Merit Scholarship Program has now determined which of the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2023 have met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. The Upper Dublin School District is pleased to announce that six students previously named semi-finalists are now considered Finalists. All Finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarship awards to be offered in 2024. The Upper Dublin High School students named as National Merit Finalists are: Alexis Andrulonis, Julia Axler, Bryson Knight, Maxwell Obando, Samuel Schneider, and Albert Zeng.
Sixty-three students from the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) participated in skill areas or leadership at the SkillsUSA District Competitions over the past couple of weeks and our Cardinals excelled. Gold Medal winners will compete at April’s State championship. Medalists from UDHS are: James Dempsey (Networking and Cybersecurity, Informational Services) and Gary Miller (Exercise Science and Rehabilitation, Extemporaneous Speech), Gold; Joshua Foster (Robotics and Automated Technology, Mechatronics), Reese Fichter (Culinary Arts), Leevens Noel (Business and Technology Professional, Opening and Closing), Samuel Roccograndi (Business and Technology Professional, Opening and Closing), and Timmy Tilson (Design, Photography, and Illustration, Quiz Bowl), Silver; and Xavier Liburd (Automotive Technology, Customer Service), Bronze.
The German department is very proud to share how well our students did on the 2024 National German Exam. The following students received the Achievement Award for their excellent performance in interpretive viewing and listening as well as reading in German: Jackie Beck, Brady Kullmann, Bryan Lou, Cameron Molyneux, Gavin Tramuta, Mason Bondi, James Paul and Casey Tomlinson. We congratulate Josiah Notary and Nicholas Loza who were awarded the Gold Medal, the highest honor, for their outstanding performance on this National Exam.
Adam Elbohy and Liam Nguyen are playing at the Fort Washington estates nursing home as a community outreach for their culminating project. The residents are loving their gifted music and respecful, friendly personalities. In addition to performing in the main dining room on birthday night, they also played a series of love songs to help celebrate Valentine's Day. We appreciate their selfless sharing of their talents.
The high school is excited about our annual "March Attendance Madness" competition. This is an attendance competition among the Period 1 Red and Period 1 Gray classes. Each week (bracket style) two classes will go head-to-head to see which class has the highest percentage of attendance. In single elimination, Period 1 classes will progress on an actual bracket until an overall winner is determined at the end of six weeks. The tournament will run from February 12 - March 22. The two winning Period 1 classes will receive a catered breakfast the week after spring break. Thank you to our school-wide PBIS committee for sponsoring this event.
Upper Dublin School District is committed to providing an environment conducive to learning for each of our students. Research shows that students who feel a strong sense of belonging thrive socially, emotionally, academically, and mentally. To that end, annually the district has administered a Belonging Survey. The results of the student survey provide insights as to what next steps in professional learning, evidence-based practices, and programming may be needed as we continue to create and sustain school cultures that are inclusive of all students. All survey responses are anonymous and no personally identifiable information will be collected. Please be sure to read the letter sent from Dr. Smith last week with survey details and dates.
As a reminder, tomorrow is a professional learning day for all staff and Monday is a national holiday. We will see students again on Tuesday, February 20.
