Cell Phone Policy 2019-20
Procedure for cell phones and headphones for the 2019-2020 school year:
Cell phones will be silent and out of sight in instructional zones.
Wired headphones will only be permitted in instructional zones when connected to a Chromebook and is a requirement to fulfill an assignment where sound is required. Wireless headphones will not be permitted in instructional zones.
The following steps will be followed in instructional zones for students who use their cell phones and/or wireless headphones OR use their wired headphones in a way that is not outlined in the procedure:
1st offense: Student gives phone/headphones to teacher/staff member; parent contact is made; student receives phone/headphones back at the end of the day.
2nd offense: Student gives phone/headphones to teacher/staff member; parent contact is made; parent/guardian picks up phone/headphones from the school.
3rd offense: Student gives phone/headphones to teacher/staff member; student is assigned AIA; parent/guardian picks up phone/headphones from the school.
Rationale:
We want all of our students to “be here” both physically and mentally. Cell phone use during instructional time is a distraction and creates an environment that is not conducive to learning.
We want to teach students that there are times when cell phone use is not appropriate.
We want students to practice communicating with others face to face.
World Language
The World Languages Department would like to congratulate all of the students of French who participated in the American Association of Teachers of French Grand Concours, better known as the National French Exam.
We are extremely proud to have two National Laureat winners of Gold (95th percentile) and Bronze (75th-80th percentiles) medals and six students who earned Honorable Mention (meaning they scored better than half the participants on the test!). These students competed against over 70,000 other high school students across the nation and earning Honorable Mention and Gold & Bronze Medals is a tremendous accomplishment.

Helen Cohen: Honorable Mention: 14th in the region, 15th in the nation
Level III: Merrimac Gunn: Honorable Mention: 21st in the region, 22nd in the nation

Nurse News
Hello from the ECG Clinic. It's hard to believe that another school year has flown by!
If your student has medication on file in the clinic, please plan to pick up any remaining medication by 12 pm on Friday, May 31, 2019. Any medication not picked up by this time will be disposed of per LCS policy. The nurse is in the clinic from 7:15 am until 2:45 pm each day. Any ADULT listed on your student's contact list is able to pick up the remaining medication and all medication is required to be counted out and signed for by the adult picking up in the nurse's presence. Reminders will be mailed soon for all prescription medication. No reminder will be mailed for over the counter medication such as ibuprofen, Tylenol, cough, syrup, etc.,
With the end of the school year and summer fast approaching, yearly routine physicals are encouraged and recommended so call your medical provider early to get your student scheduled for this important routine health visit. If your student needs to take medication at school, a physician/parent authorization to administer medication form is required to be on file in the clinic. If your student has one of the following health conditions: seizures, diabetes, asthma, anaphylactic allergies, or migraines, an action plan form is required to be on file in the clinic. Both of these forms are required to be renewed yearly. All forms are available in the clinic and your student is welcome to stop by to obtain one or the forms can be obtained from the LCS website following this link: https://www.lcsedu.net/parents/forms.
