More Than A Meal is a program which can provide support to your family. Families who qualify for assistance may qualify for additional support including discounts on fees for SAT, ACT, AP tests, home internet costs, passes for public transportation, and application fees associated with colleges and universities. Please complete the online application or the paper application which can be obtained from the Front Office (only one application per family).

Mt. Carmel Football Games

All middle school students attending Mt. Carmel football games must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Groups of students will no longer be allowed to enter with the parent of another student. Middle school students who attempt to enter without their parent or legal guardian will be denied admission to the game.

This week Mesa Verde Middle School participated in the national “Start with Hello” week. The purpose of this week is to promote a culture of inclusivity and positive school culture as we continue into the new school year. Students were given the opportunity to sign the "Start with Hello" pledge, send "hello-grams" with a sticker of encouragement to other students on campus, and "leave their mark" at MVMS. Thank you to all those who participated!

A Bike Permit will be required for all bicycles, scooters, E-bikes and skateboards beginning Monday, October 2nd. If your student turned in the MVMS Student Bicycle/Scooter/E-Bike/Skateboard Parking Permit Application and passed the online quiz, an email will be sent out next week with information on how to pick up your Parking Permit. For students who turned in an application but did not pass the online quiz, you will receive a separate email with information on retaking the quiz in-person.

Hello, MVMS Families! For those of you with a temporary bus pass, the expiration date has been extended to September 29th. When transportation delivers the bus passes to MVMS, you will be notified. A pass will then be sent to your student as soon as the official bus pass becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

MVMS is currently hiring Instructional Aides and Noon Duty positions. If you would like to be a part of school community and are interested in part-time or full-time work at your child's school, please inquire at the district office in how you can join our team.

Suicide is a national health problem and currently ranks as the second leading cause of death for ages 10-44. Suicide is also one of the most preventable types of death in our nation. We see the most positive change when families and school staff can work together to support students.

There are resources for parents and caregivers of children and teens. Click here for information regarding: signs of mental health challenges, ways to prevent suicidal ideation, ways to cope and manage a mental health challenge, where to go for help, tools for teens to use themselves, and more.

The Mesa Verde library is looking for parent volunteers to help during our busy lunch periods:

• Mon/Tues/Thu/Friday: 11:30 to 1:00
• Wednesdays: 11:20 to 12:45

No experience necessary. Flexible schedules - you can choose to volunteer once a week, once a month, etc. Please contact Heather Ryan hryan@powayusd.com for more information.

Quizbowl is a fast-paced Academic Trivia club, which competes in competitions against other schools across San Diego, and across the country similar to Jeopardy. Subjects range from history and fine arts, to science, literature, mythology, pop culture and even sports. We meet online via zoom meetings each Tuesday, from 4:30 to 5:30. No experience is required! Join the google classroom where more information is posted or contact wvhsqb@gmail.com.

Rancho Penasquitos Recreational Basketball League registration is from Sept. 1 thru Nov. 15 and games will start Jan 6, 2024. The league is open to 3rd grade and up.
