Happy first day of fall!
Did you know that today is the Autumnal Equinox for the Northern Hemisphere? This is the astronomical start of the fall season in the Northern Hemisphere (and the start of the spring season in the Southern Hemisphere).
As we welcome in this new season, we invite you to keep your eyes open for signs of the change of seasons on campus (the changing color of the leaves around Beebe Lake, the cool crisp air as you wake up in the morning, the apple and pumpkin foods in the dining halls, etc.).
Remember the Resilience Pyramid from a few weeks ago? In this week's newsletter we're focusing on the importance of connecting with others (in meaningful and respectful ways). Read on to learn more about the importance of connection and ways to connect with others on campus.

Connecting With Others
As humans, we all have a need for belonging and connection with others. Cultivating and maintaining a variety of social relationships - and avoiding social isolation - is one of the best ways to thrive and not just survive at Cornell and beyond. Remember, developing trusting relationships takes time, so be patient and nurture these relationships.
Think about the different types of relationships you have and want to cultivate – friendships, classmates, conversations with TAs, professors, your PI or lab supervisor, roommates/housemates, romantic partners, family members, mentors and mentees, etc.
A message about Social Connection from the Cornell Student Mental Health Collective
Especially for New Students
Emery Bergmann '21 made a video for a digital media class homework assignment when she was a first-year student at Cornell. She assumed that college would mean she was going to have a million friends, was going to be going to parties all the time, but that wasn't her reality during her first few months of her first year of college. It resonated with students across the country.
During her Today Show interview Emory said, "Everyone is figuring themselves out and their place, dealing with the same transition you are. Finding your 'people' is an active process, not something immediate, as I expected it to be." View her video here: My College Transition - YouTube

Body Positive Cornell
Body Positive Cornell (BPC) is a peer-led wellness community open to all undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. BPC seeks to empower students to reconnect with their innate body wisdom, cultivate a healthy and balanced relationship with their bodies, and foster a community of self-love.
Join a Body Positive Group - these peer facilitated groups meet once a week for six weeks and focus on body appreciation, self-compassion and intuitive self-care.
Groups offered this semester include:
- Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30pm: Body Positive peer-facilitated general group
*begins Oct. 18 - Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:00pm: Body Positive peer-facilitated BIPOC group
*begins Oct. 12 - Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:00pm: Body Positive peer-facilitated general group

Feeling Groggy? Need to Refresh? Make Time for Sleep
Enroll in Refresh, Cornell Health’s free, online sleep program. This eight-week, evidence-based self-help program shares information and strategies proven to help you catch more high-quality ZZZs. This program is open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

Homecoming 2022 Fireworks & Laser Light Show
Friday, September 23 at 8pm
Doors open at 7:30pm
Get ready for one of Cornell's most fun nights - the Homecoming Fireworks and Laser Light Show! Come to Schoellkopf Stadium as we’ll light up the sky and celebrate the spirit of Cornell. DJ Chris Washburn will keep you entertained and dancing starting at 8:00 p.m. The fireworks kick off at 9:00 p.m.! Registration via Campus Groups is required for this free event and will be checked at the stadium gates - be prepared to scan your QR code you receive via email.
Homecoming Big Red Fan Festival
One of the most spirited annual Cornell traditions is back! Undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are invited to join for carnival games, music, college showcases, giveaways, free food wristbands for the first 3000 attendees, and pick-up a free Cornell t-shirt at this event while supplies last. You may only be on campus for a few years, but you're forever a part of the Cornell community. This event is free of charge with no QR code needed, but student attendees will need to check in at the student tent to receive their t-shirt and food tickets!
Cornell Homecoming Football Game vs. Yale

Come cheer on the Cornell football team as they play their annual Homecoming game against Yale when the two teams square off. The two teams will be meeting for the 84th time dating back to their first game on the gridiron - all the way back in 1889.

Executive Function Community of Practice
People who have ADHD and other related disabilities tend to experience issues with one or more executive functions. This Community of Practice is for any student who feels they can benefit from interacting with peers to learn some practical tips and tricks, as well as what accommodations, gadgets, or apps can facilitate their academic work and daily life.
You don’t need an official diagnosis to join. Those who have a self-diagnosis or self-identification are very much welcome. Please join us!

FIRst Faculty Friday - Connect with Faculty!

Engaging with faculty members for the first time can be scary but you don't have to do it alone. Join the Tatkon Center and North Campus Faculty in Residences for a series geared towards introducing you to faculty members outside of the classroom. During FIRst Faculty Fridays, come meet and engage with the different faculty in residence on North campus. You'll get a free mug to bring with you every week, some coffee, cookies and conversations. Join Mike Chen from the Learning Strategies Center for a study skills workshop that is guaranteed to help you through your time here at Cornell! Mike has a BA in English from Yale and an MFA in creative writing from Cornell. Much more importantly, he has been helping Cornell students with their study skills since the turn of the century. Mike coordinates LSC study skills services, and consults one-on-one with students on their time management, note-taking, test preparation and other issues related to their studies.
