Welcome Back Update

With the delta variant threatening our community and instituting a number of safety protocols in each classroom we felt that it would not be a safe decision to host a full open house this season.

Trust me when I say, this hurts us more than you know. We love to see all our families, see how much everyone grew over the summer and its the best way to answer all the questions you have about this upcoming year.

Without open house I will try to answer all those questions in this newsletter.

We are a small school and for that reason it is well within our compacity to follow all of the CDC's required guidelines. We are actually going above and beyond at keeping our students safe from the COVID pandemic while they are here in school.

Here is a list of our school's protocols for the upcoming school year:

• All students K-12 will be required to wear a mask on the bus
• Student's temperatures will be taken as a screener daily at all entrances
• All K-5 class cohorts will have a separate entry and exit doors
• Our custodial company will deep clean building weekly
• Increase hand washing and social distancing
• Improving air quality by removing hallway carpets and replacing Gym's HVAC system
• Recommend vaccinations and wearing masks as a precaution

*While vaccinations and masks are recommended they are not required at any level in our building.

**All COVID protocols are subject to change as our communities' health crisis changes.

Marshall Academy is a traditional school. We believe that students need to be present to learn to the best of their ability under the care of a certified teacher. However, we understand that at this time some families do not feel safe sending their children to school amid a pandemic. A virtual option we be available for grades 6-12 in the 2021-21 school year.

Students must meet certain criteria to be eligible for virtual learning.

Eligibility:

Online learners in the 20-21 school year:

• must have passed 60% of classes virtually the previous year
• must have completed all online courses

In person learners in the 20-21 school year:

• must have passed 60% of in-person classes
• must be proficient in reading on a standardized test (NWEA, PSAT, or SAT)

If you wish to choose the virtual option, and you are eligible please contact Mrs. Katz to schedule your courses.

*All students will be required to wear a mask while on the bus.

Most stop times will be very similar to last year's times. However some have changed. As our enrollment is changing daily, so too are our bus stop times. We will be emailing our exact times early next week.

The school days is from 8:00 am to 3:00pm each day.

Each day doors open at 7:45 am to let students come in and get and early start on breakfast.

All half days let out at 11:30am

Opening Ceremony will be held the first and last day of each week.

Opening Ceremony will be newscast style on Google classroom.

We look forward resuming Opening Ceremony in the gymnasium as soon as it is safe for us to gather again.

The short answer is, No!

Marshall Academy has taken the burden off your shoulders. Any materials that are needed in the classroom for your student to be successful are purchased by us.

All you will need are the optional items for your convenience. For instance, you may want a backpack, a pencil pouch to store you personal items, or a lunch pale if you wish to bring your own lunch.

A packet of paperwork will be sent home for each student the first week of school.

It is very important that the paperwork is completed and returned to the school promptly.

When returned completed, the family will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card and the student will receive a prize. The drawing will be held on Friday, September 24.

Marshall Academy does provide free breakfast and lunch for each student evey day.

We qualify as a Community Eligibility Provision (or C.E.P.) school based on our free and reduced lunch forms. This is one of the reasons filling these forms out is very important.

All you have to do is pick up your breakfast in the morning to be counted and tell your teacher you want lunch.

I tried to cover it all, but I am sure some things were missed.
