Weekly Update October 14, 2022
Head Cheetah's Message
Families,
I hope you’re able to enjoy the beauty of the season this weekend. The weather forecast looks great, and the foliage is reaching it’s peak! My drive to work is FULL of color right now; and it’s such a hopeful way to start the day. May you find a beautiful path to walk or drive over the next couple of days.
While it was a short week, our days were full. Many of our students enjoyed celebrations from the Summer Fitness, Reading, and Math Challenges; and grade three students had a special assembly with the East Hampton Rotary Club. The Rotary Club has maintained a long-standing tradition of gifting every third grade student with their very own dictionaries. We are lucky to have such wonderful community partners!
As always, thank you for your partnership!

Rotary Club Donates Dictionaries
On Wednesday, our third grade students had a special visit from the East Hampton Rotary Club. The Rotarians came to present each grade 3 student with their very own dictionary. This is a long standing tradition at Memorial School. We are lucky to have such wonderful community partners!

Music News
Hello Memorial Families! It has been an exciting month of learning in the music room. Read on below to hear about your student’s classroom expectations in music!
Classroom Expectations:
Preschool: Students were expected to use music tools safely and experiment with their voices and movements. They practiced using our four voices: talking, whispering, calling, and singing. They enjoyed singing “Engine Engine” and playing sand blocks to make the train sound. They also tried using a hand drum and singing “Frog in the Bucket” while making a frog hop!
Kindergarten: Students were expected to demonstrate four voices using the voice poem and to respond individually with a singing voice during the singing ball game. They enjoyed singing songs like “Engine Engine”, “Here We Go Looby Loo”, and “Sally Go ‘Round the Sun”. They are also working on the expectation of taking turns and showing cheetah pride in music class!
First Grade: Students were expected to demonstrate a steady beat to all sorts of music this month. They practiced by playing drums (large and small), bouncing a ball to the beat, and singing songs like “Frog in the Bucket” and “Charlie Over the Ocean”. They continued to practice making a “perfect match” when using the singing ball.
Second Grade: Students were expected to read and identify the notes and rhythms they learned in first grade. Now, they have noticed a new mystery rhythm, which gets two heartbeats! Favorite songs and games this month included “Bluebird”, the dot game, and “Rico’s Pizza Restaurant” (which involved singing a silly pizza order). Students also practiced describing music they listened to, including the song “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg.
Third Grade: Third graders are expected to read and identify notes and rhythms they learned about in second grade. They have been working on discovering the names of two mystery notes on our staircase, and have found the notes in songs like “Biscuit”, “Alabama Gal”, and “Ghost of Tom”. They have even tried decoding the songs on a xylophone, while working hard on their problem solving skills! Their work was impressive!
Please check out the music room website for more information about the music program. Feel free to reach out at any time by emailing smaldonado@easthamptonct.org.
