We should all have a dream...
Principal's Message
Dear Blackstock Families:
I hope the start of 2023 is going well for you and your families. With the challenging weather conditions we have seen this past week, I want to remind students and families to be safe to and from school and whenever you are on the roads. In addition, please arrive with lots of patience when you arrive at our school to pick up or drop off your child. Please be extra vigilant and cautious to keep everyone safe. If we ask you to move while parked in the parking lot, please do so quickly. When we ask you to move, it is for safety reasons. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
We have some exciting events happening in the next few weeks. I want to make sure to highlight them in this newsletter.
Parent Project
Our wonderful counselors will begin their Parent Project classes on January 18, 2023. All parents are welcome to attend. This program provides parents with the tools they need to support their children. All students need guidance and these classes prepare you to provide that guidance. Even parents who are not struggling with their children will benefit from having these tools. With these tools you will be prepared if you ever need them for yourself as well as helping you support family and friends who are struggling with their teens. This session will be offered in Spanish.
Logrando Bienestar
Our school district in collaboration with Logrando Bienestar (VCBH) have created a series of 3 workshops for parents starting next Tuesday in the evening. These workshops cover the topics of Bullying, Depression and Anxiety and they will be presented in English, Spanish, and Mixteco. Each language will be hosted at different sites, English at E.O Green, Spanish at Blackstock, and Mixteco at Haycox. All presentations will be hybrid and parents can choose to attend in person or through Zoom. Attached you will find the flyer for each presentation based on the language with its specific Zoom link.
CTE Roadshow for 8th Graders
On January 26, 2023 the Oxnard Union High School District will be here in preparation for supporting our students' transition/enrollment to high school. In addition they will provide our 8th graders with information on the different pathways at each high school.
HVAC Update
The HVAC project is moving along smoothly. They have completed the first two phases and will begin phase 3 on Monday, January 13, 2023. The first few classes that were moved have now returned to their classrooms. Three new classes will be moved before the begin phase 3.
School Site Council and ELAC
Please be on the lookout for School Site Council and ELAC meetings. Our next meeting will be on Friday, January 20, 2023. We need all of our members to attend, but these are public meetings and all are welcome.
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be sent home with students on January 20, 2023. Please be sure to ask your child to see their progress report. It is important to review their grades now and if they need support, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher. There is also before school and after school homework/schoolwork support. Together we can do so much to ensure continued student success.
Thank you again for all your support and a great start to the new year. We look forward to continuing to work with you and your child this new year.
