Cucinella Weekly Wrap-Up #2
Week of September 11, 2023
“Make each day your masterpiece.” – John Wooden
This week marked our first full week of the school year! Both our students and staff are gradually acclimating to classroom routines, and we are beginning to immerse ourselves in the rhythm of teaching and learning. While bidding farewell to summer can be bittersweet, it's heartening to witness the school bustling with enthusiastic students actively engaged in their learning journey.
On Monday, we held a moment of silence at 8:46am in remembrance of the tragic events of 9/11. Later that day, our 5th grade students participated in lessons where they designed their own memorials in recognition of the heroic efforts of all those who came together to support our country during those challenging times.
On Tuesday, we conducted our first safety drill of the year. The safety and well-being of both students and staff are always our top priorities, and commencing the year with these practice drills is the most effective means of ensuring everyone's security. Our students demonstrated excellent readiness and admirably followed their teachers' instructions. Kudos to all for a job well done!
This week we welcome the community into the building for our annual Back to School Night! More information regarding this evening below.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me at cperruso@wtschools.org.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,
Christopher Perruso

Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Sonzogni, Mrs. Draghi, and Mrs. Melendez
In this week's edition of our Teacher Spotlight, we turn our attention to the collaborative efforts of Ms. Sonzogni, Mrs. Draghi, and Mrs. Melendez. Last week, these dedicated educators brought together their 1st and 5th grade students for a unique peer learning experience. Ms. Sonzogni and Mrs. Melendez's 5th graders joined forces with Mrs. Draghi's 1st grade class, creating partnerships that led to a meaningful exchange.
During this interactive session, students were paired up and participated in a "getting-to-know-you" interview with their newfound buddies. Subsequently, the older students extended their support to their younger counterparts, assisting them in articulating their preferences and interests in writing. This engaging and collaborative learning opportunity not only fostered connections but also allowed the older students to showcase their reading and writing proficiency while nurturing their 1st-grade buddies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Sonzogni, Mrs. Draghi, and Mrs. Melendez for their dedication to our students' growth and the creation of these impactful learning experiences.
