We are a Title One School, which means there are certain things we have to do to keep the extra funding that comes to us from the federal government, one of those is going home in your child's Tuesday Take Home folder today. It is a Parent Compact which is basically an agreement of what the school is going to do, what the parents are going to do and finally what the student is going to do to make this a successful school year. I have already signed for the school. I need parents and students to sign it and return it to school by next Friday September 23rd.

Our school district uses a Multi Tiered System of Support to assist our students struggling with academic and social emotional learning. Please see the attached letter for more information about our services.

I have had several students already in my office this year for hitting, kicking, using inappropriate words and just not being very nice. We normally see these behaviors MUCH later in the school year. I have contacted many of you and you have been so supportive when I call and that is so appreciated. It really is a team effort. Some of the children that we have had issues with are students that have been at our school for long time, so I'm not sure what's going on. Please talk to your children about not putting their hands on each other and what to do if they are upset with one of their classmates.

A major policy we have at Hannum is not hitting other students. Defending yourself is totally understandable and appropriate, when there aren't adults present... but there are always adults that can help students if someone is bothering them during the school day. Thank you for being on the same page with this.

District 123 6K Run/Walk with World Vision: On Saturday, September 17th at OLHMS District 123 will once again be hosting our annual 6K walk/run in conjunction with World Vision to raise funds for clean water projects and education for the children of Africa. The 6K distance represents the average distance young children in some African communities must walk to retrieve dirty, contaminated water for their families. We are encouraging all students, staff, community members, families, and friends to join us in this endeavor. The cost is $25 per participant. Registration includes a t-shirt, race bib with a photo of a child you will be assisting, and a finisher's medal. Online registration is open and available. Go to www.teamworldvision.org/team/D123 and click “JOIN OUR TEAM” to register. We are also in need of volunteer support, namely as course monitors who work from 8:30AM-11:00AM to help keep our participants safe.

Now that everyone will be coming back to school, our traffic issues will return as well. Please see the attached map for where to drop off and where you can park if you want to get out and walk your child to their line.

Here are some reminders for helping us get kids in and out of school safely:

• PLEASE pull up as far as you can go when you are letting students out of the car.
• PLEASE do not park across the street and have kids run across to get either to the school or back to your car.
• PLEASE be patient as kids are getting out of the car.
• PLEASE do not block the entrance and exit of the school parking lots and
• PLEASE do not park in the driveway of St. Germaine School. (You may pull into the spots in their parking lot, but do not park in the driveway.)

Our district is making district PBIS t shirts so that our kids will have reminders of our Bear Behaviors! Order now and we will have specified days to wear them..but of course they can wear them anytime. Orders are due by 9/23

At the beginning of the school year, we always have requests for older siblings to walk through the building to be dismissed with a younger siblings classroom. This creates a chaotic dismissal especially with our K and 1st grade students and their teachers. This is the grade where the children need more supervision and adding kids to the mix isn't fair to those teachers or the students.

Older siblings can walk around the outside of school to the K/1 doors OR if you are not comfortable with that, they can wait with their teacher until you make your way around to them. I know this is inconvenient, but it does work. Thank you for your understanding.

Our school will be serving nutritious breakfast and lunch every school day. If you qualify, you can receive free or reduced lunches. Please call the office if you need information about how to qualify. The cost of breakfast is $1.50 and the cost of lunch is $3.05.

BREAKFAST will be served in the main hall of our school beginning at 8:10-8:25am. Students will enjoy their breakfast in our multi-purpose room and then will go to their line to start the day.

LUNCH will be ordered with your child's classroom teacher every morning. Students will be able to choose from 2 choices. Students can also bring a home lunch and only order a milk. Milk only is 60 cents and students can choose white or chocolate. You can add money to your child's meal account through Skyward. https://www.d123.org/departments/operations/lunch-menus

DOUBLE LUNCH Many of our older students like to order a double lunch. I ask if they have permission and they say they do... then parents are surprised that the lunch balance goes down so quickly. I have told our 4th and 5th grade students that they need to have permission to do this, so please speak to your children about this.

Grade 5 eats from 11:00-11:25

Grades 3 and 4 eat from 11:25-11:50

Kindergarten eats from 11:55-12:20

Grades 1 and 2 eat from 12:20-12:45

Are you going to miss your kids while they are at school? We are in need of help supervising our students during lunch and recess. This is a perfect part time job for someone who just wants to work a few hours a day and enjoys spending time with kids during their favorite time of the day! Come and join our team! Come one, come all to our Welcome Back Bears Bash on Friday, September 16th!!

5:30pm-7:30 pm on the Hannum Playground. There will be games, concessions, chance to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. Fun for the whole family!

Due to the lack of volunteers the District PTA Spooktacular scheduled for October 22nd has been cancelled.
