The Scoop!
Cedar Hills Elementary - April 28, 2024
Principal's Note
Friends,
It was a week of opportunity outside of CHE. We had field trips to the Wilderness Science Center for our 5th grade classes and to the Zoo for our 1st grade classes. They both had amazing learning opportunities thanks to our PTO and the EEF fund!
This coming week, the PTO will also be hosting the annual School Picnic that has been rescheduled on Thursday at 5:30pm. We hope to see you there! Our 4th grade will be going on a field trip to BizTown on Wednesday and PTO is hosting our Spring Book fair Wednesday through Friday. We are excited for the week ahead!
Have a great weekend,
Cade Chace
Pets on Campus - Arrival and Dismissal
Please refrain from bringing your pets to the entrance of the school at arrival/dismissal. Please keep pets away from the front circle and no closer than the service road in the back. Some students are very allergic, and others are afraid of animals. Even the friendliest pets can get anxious around a large number of students. We appreciate your help and support with this request.
Register for the 2024-25 school year today
Elementary school registration for the 2024-25 school year is open and online now for current students. Registration is required annually and is the time to update your child’s information and pay fees. Completing registration confirms that your child will attend school in August. Thank you for providing important information as part of this annual process. For more registration information, visit www.bluevalleyk12.org/registration.
Creative Kiddos Wanted!
The Johnson County Election Office is running a contest for K-8 students to design a sticker to be distributed to youth at advance voting and Election Day polling sites. The submission deadline is May 3. Contest rules and required forms are included in this Sticker Contest Packet as well as at this link.
SOJO Basketball Camp
We are excited to announce the 3rd annual SOJO Basketball Camp! Dates are June 11th - 14th at PRMS! This is the only camp that PRMS coaches Fritch (A2 coach) and me (A1/head coach) will be attending this summer. This year will be the best one yet and we are super pumped to get the kids into camp, get them excited about playing basketball, and improving their skills! Please see the attached flyer for information. Here is the sign-up link. Please reach out to me if you have any questions. It's going to be great!! 🏀🏀🏀🏀

Some April Celebrations & Observances:
World Autism Awareness Month - aims to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
National Arab American Heritage Month - recognizes the achievements and contributions of Arab Americans to society, culture, and American history.
Eid al Fitr - April 10th - marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting. Some families will celebrate the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” by joining in communal prayer and meals, visiting family, gift-giving, and charity.
Day of Silence - April 14 - a national, student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies take a vow of silence to protest the silencing and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.
- Passover - evening of April 22-30 - a Jewish holiday commemorating the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. Some families will observe the holiday with a special meal, called a Seder, eating foods of symbolic significance and reciting traditional prayers.
Attendance Reporting and Notifications
Families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone, and text if a child is absent and their absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to report an absence or reply to the automated email or phone message.
What is the purpose of attendance notifications?
We realize that students may occasionally need to miss school for planned absences, illnesses, and appointments. However, when a student does not arrive at school or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.
How can I get push notifications?
Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device.
Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings. Once the app is downloaded, these instructions will help you complete the set-up.

Kick Off to Our EEF (Educational Enhancement Fund) Fundraising For the 2024-2025 School Year!
One big part of your child’s education is the ability of the PTO to provide funds for all sorts of education enhancements throughout the year.
The EEF funds incredibly important parts of your child’s education and learning including field trips, online and in class learning subscriptions (estimated to $12,000 this year) and staff grants which we are grateful to be able to offer $5,000 this year to our incredible staff through this fund!
We also fund school assemblies, visiting authors and after school clubs through the EEF.
We ask that you consider making a suggested $75 donation per student to help us plan and fund your child's education enhancements for the 24-25 school year!
