What an incredible first few days we’ve had at Hawks View! Our students have been busy getting to know their teacher, classroom & school routines and fostering friendships. It’s been a joy to be in and out of classrooms and see kids truly happy to be here. We strive for positive relationships with our kids and families and our staff has worked diligently this week to build a solid foundation for this school year. It is a gift to serve your kids!
Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend!

Save the Date!
Our Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 6-7:30pm. Our evening will look a bit different this year, as we’re planning to include kids as well! We want this evening to be a celebration of school and a time for teachers and parents to interact in an informal setting. Dinner will be part of the evening as well, so mark your calendars and look for more information in the coming weeks!
STEM News
Welcome back students and families. I’m so excited to be teaching STEM to our students again this year. I would love to keep you updated on the wonderful learning that takes place in my class throughout the year. For our first unit you will find a synopsis below.
Kinder will be introduced to STEM through engineering with STEM bin materials such as Legos, Keva Planks, Magnatiles, and other tactile materials. They will learn to work with partners and use their natural creative talents.
1st and 2nd grade will begin with a team building activity of stacking cups using an engineered gadget made of pipe cleaners and a rubber band. They will follow up this activity with an engineering challenge to imagine, create, test, and improve a flying contraption for Rosie Revere, Engineer.
3rd graders will begin with a team building activity of stacking cups using an engineered gadget made of yarn and a rubber band. Followed by an engineering challenge to imagine, create, test, and improve a Mars Rover Lander.
4th and 5th graders will complete the same team building task as 3rd grade, followed by a Rube Goldberg machine engineering challenge.
Animals on Campus
We know that many of our families walk their dog to school to pick up their student(s). While we appreciate that our furry friends can get out for a walk, please ensure your pup is leashed and with you at all times. Our city does have a “leash law” that requires animals to be on a leash at all times when in public. In a practical sense, this is best practice whenever you mix hundreds of children with an animal. In a worst case scenario, owners who bring their pets to school should be aware that they run the risk of assuming any liability if an incident occurs between their pet and another person.
Transportation Information
If you need information regarding bussing, please download the Ride 360 Parent App. You will need your student ID number, which you find on Parent Vue or by calling the office at 503-825-5400.
Nutrition Services
You will find information on our school lunch program on our District website (Nutrition Services), as well as information on Free & Reduced Meals, SchoolPay accounts through ParentVUE, meal pricing and menus. SchoolPay is our new online system for paying for school meals. We are no longer using PayForIt.net.
Community-Based Events and Announcements
