Week of March 14, 2023
Spring Sports
Dear Methacton Families and Community,
The Methacton Boy's 4x4 officially wrapped up their indoor season with a bang at the New Balance National Championships this weekend. The record setting relay of Christian Kinard, Nicholas Willen, SahBri Hill, and Zachary Willen came into the national qualifying meet seeded 31st overall.
They once again exceeded expectations, earning a second place finish in their heat and 14th overall! At the meet, every member of the team improved on their personal best 400 relay time in the process.
Their time of 3:22.91 lowers their school record by another 2.5 seconds from the state meet. In all, the quartet lowered the previous school record this year by SEVEN seconds, a colossal amount for the 1600m relay.
This talented group deserves a lot of credit for representing their school on a national level.
Sincerely,
John M. Smink
Director of Athletics and Activities

Baseball
The Methacton baseball program had a great fall season and a productive January and February off-season at the All Sports Center in Trappe. The hard work leading up to the season has shown throughout this first week. The Varsity and JV teams are very excited for our first scrimmage at Abington on March 14 at 3:45pm and our first game at Lansdale Catholic on March 24. Given the number of returning varsity players, especially on the mound, we have great opportunities for players to be competing with each other for starting positions all over the field.
Our seniors have been doing a great job of leading this group to doing the right things towards earning success, and we have a tremendous group of underclassman that are working hard every day. The 2023 team is very much looking forward to the challenge of proving to ourselves and to our opponents that we can compete at a high level in one of the toughest baseball conferences in the state of Pennsylvania. We are working towards a great regular season in 2023, and will look to build off of the learning experiences from 2022.
Although we have aspirations for the District and State tournaments, we hope to earn the right to compete, first and foremost, for a chance to win the PAC championship in May. Although our division and conference are very strong and it will be a big challenge for us, our goals start there!
A shout out to our players and coaching staff for all of the volunteer time that they have put in since the end of last season. It will pay off this Spring!

We have a short early season and a lot of work ahead of us as we get ready for our first dual meet at home with Norristown on March 29th followed by the North Penn Invitational on April 1st.
We voted in our team captains this past week and the Girls team is guided under the leadership of Annaliesa Geiling, Bella Coppola, Bipasha Mokten, Kirsten Buggel, and Summer Mellow.
An athlete to highlight is Summer Mellow as she finished up her very strong Winter Track season by competing at the Nike Indoor Games at the Armory in NYC. She competed in the 60 meter dash and the long jump to finish a stellar end to her season.

Our second scrimmage will be away at Council Rock North, and we finish the week with our regular season home opener Friday against Wissahickon at 3:45pm.
Deserving Athlete - Owen Goldstein
Owen is a senior who decided to come out and play lacrosse for the first time ever this year. He showed immense courage and determination trying something new and it is already paying off.
