Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful break, and enjoyed time with friends and family. This new year will bring new learning experiences, new challenges, and new adventures for your children. We are excited to be back in school and resuming our routines. Classroom procedures have been established, and teachers are focused on teaching and learning.

As we make our way through the coldest months of the year, please remember that students go outside for thirty minutes each day. It is important that they come with the appropriate outdoor clothing. If at any time you or someone you know is in need of additional coats, boots, etc., please let us know and we can help out.

Finally, I'd like to thank everyone for their generosity over the holiday season. In particular, I'd like to acknowledge the Ladies of Popham Circle, who gave PES an incredibly generous donation that will benefit students and staff.

Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. Active kids will have:

• stronger muscles and bones
• leaner bodies
• less risk of becoming overweight
• a lower chance of getting type 2 diabetes
• lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
• a better outlook on life

Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, fit kids sleep better. Exercise improves school performance and makes kids less likely to develop depression. Kids who exercise regularly are also better able to handle physical and emotional challenges — from running to catch a bus to studying for a test.

The next 8-week K-5 Mad Science before school program begins January 11, 2023. If your child is interested in participating in Mad Science's Mad Lab Medley program, please register online at maine.madscience.org by January 6th. We need a minimum of 10 students to hold the program at PES (parents provide transportation to school on these Wednesdays). Scholarships are available; if interested, please contact Mrs. Doran at 389-1514 by January 6th. FLYER

Families CAN! offers several FREE parenting enrichment programs and training for professionals open to any parent, caregiver or community member. Currently, all programs are being offered by Zoom, with one hybrid in-person program that will be held in Bath.
