FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Teacher Appreciation Week ~ May 8-12, 2023
CENTENNIAL HIGHLIGHTS
Tonight ~ Fine Arts Showcase Night 2023
The Fine Arts Showcase exhibit kicked off Thursday afternoon with 32 Senior Artists building spaces to display their work. This annual tradition highlights the efforts of four years of hard work. Artists enjoyed the afternoon with family and friends. These incredible walls will be on display during the Fine Arts Showcase at William Tennent, tonight, May 5th, from 7:00-9:00 PM. WTHS Congratulates all of our talented artists!
Global Scholars
Congratulations to three World Language Students from WTHS, Hunter Morris, Emma Weinstein, and Keith Thompson who recently earned the distinction of Global Scholars by the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association. This year, only 143 students throughout the State received this honor. This program recognizes students for taking four years of the same language at the high school level. Students also must take four other courses that focus on global issues, maintain an 85% average in their courses, complete five media reviews, and participate in four community service events. The students received a certificate and a special cord to be worn during graduation.
Bucks Day
Graduation for the Class of 2023 is only weeks away! This week, WTHS was excited to host our first annual Bucks Day to celebrate our partnership with Bucks County Community College and our automatic acceptance agreement. Seniors were invited to a presentation by a panel of 14 BCCC representatives to hear about their many traditional associate degree programs, as well as workforce training programs which do not require a student to work toward a degree, but can lead to meaningful employment. All graduating seniors who have not yet determined their future plans were encouraged to attend to learn more about potential opportunities for either college or career preparedness. More than 100 seniors participated!
Workforce Development: Career and workforce training programs
On May 22, interested seniors will have the opportunity to visit both the new Center for Advanced Technologies, located in Bristol, PA, and the traditional BCCC Newtown campus in Newtown, PA. After the trip, representatives from BCCC will come to WTHS to assist students with taking the placement tests required to register for all BCCC programs.
Students and families who have questions should reach out to their school counselor. WTHS is proud of our students and grateful for our partnership with BCCC which affords our students meaningful opportunities beyond high school.
The 8th Annual Behind the Lens Film Festival
The 8th Annual Behind the Lens Film Festival was an audience favorite! On May 3, more than 30 student films--out of 70 submissions--were featured at the festival. This film festival provides an opportunity for students to showcase their work and connect their work with an audience," said Mrs. Dina McCaffery, Film Festival founder and WTHS Media Production teacher. "We are so fortunate to have the support of the Arts in our district."
Visit to Grounds for Sculpture
Ms. Hering and Mrs. Montgomery’s art classes had a lovely afternoon trip to Grounds for Sculpture located in Hamilton, NJ. Grounds For Sculpture is a museum, sculpture garden, and arboretum framed by nature on 42 picturesque acres. Even though the weather was a bit overcast, students explored the monumental sculptures, galleries, and beautifully landscaped grounds. One of our highlights was seeing the peacocks spread their magnificent feathers. William Tennent artists were encouraged to participate in a three-dimensional scavenger hunt, practice mindfulness, sketch, observe and reflect. Visiting Grounds for Sculpture was a great way to motivate our students to look closely and engage with art through all their senses - investigating scale, space, dimensionality, materials, and process along the way.
Log Represented On The Red Carpet
The red carpet was rolled out and the lights were beaming at the eighth annual Behind the Lens Film Festival, hosted by William Tennent High School on May 3rd. This is a contest open to students around the Delaware Valley, and two 7th-grade LCMS student groups in the “Lights! Camera! Action!” digital production class were honored as finalists in the middle school category. It was such an exciting way to recognize Log College's creative filmmakers and a great showcase of their talents.
The films demonstrate that the students understand how movement and camera angles, along with audio and special effects, combine to tell a story. It takes the students about twenty hours to produce 90 seconds of media, which is a lot of work! We are really proud of our filmmakers and hope you enjoyed the show!
Finalists:
“A Student’s Nightmare” by Matthew Binder; Actresses Zoey Cumiskey and Mazie Dingas
“Magic Man” by Connor McCurdy, Gretchen Moll, and Owen Thomson-Hohl
Noteable LCMS Entries:
“Magic Hands” by Megan Pacchioli and Alaina Pashavath
“Abracadabra!” by Zoe Cumiskey,, Mazie Dingas, and Khloe Chladek
